Taken nicely out of context that second one, Sweets for my Sweet, The Searchers. The first is right. The Honeycombs caused a bit of a stir with their female drummer, can you remember the band with the female bassist ? And their No.1 hit ?

The Hollies is right but the song was I'm Alive

You'll have to give me a clue on the female bassist I'm afraid

grrrrr - that only got to No 7

I wasted 10 mins of my life checking the 60s Number ones to jog my memory

You sure about that ? Mind you, I could be wrong, apologies. It was a very naff song and would have sunk without trace had it not been for the bassist.

He saw a sign for a stock car race
a thousand dollar prize it read.

Yes Love Affair

I had no idea on the lyrics above so googled it. You learn something everyday. I didn't have a clue that Richie Valens wrote that very well known song. I'll leave it for someone else to guess as I cheated.

I'd like the BRITISH singer of this - if only because I knew the guy and once went horse riding with him at Woodingdean.

So I went to the corner
Just to ease my pains
Yeah, just to ease my pains
I got troubles, whoa-oh
I got worries, whoa-oh
I came home again

Crispian St Peters You were on my Mind

Was he as big headed as I seem to remember him, thought he was gonna be bigger than the Beatles or some twaddle?

Interesting voice though and I also liked The Pied Piper

It's too much to lose
My love's too strong
May be if she
Would come back to me
Then it can't go wrong

Baby you can drive my car
Yes i'm gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
and baby i love you.

Not sure that actually putting the song title in the lyrics is the way this is supposed to be done :p

He was quite modest. He only ever claimed that EIGHTY of his songs were better than anything ever written by Lennon and McCartney. It was Elvis Presley that he was going to be bigger than, not The Beatles.

That was The Bo Street Runners with "Baby You Can Drive My Car", featuring Mike "Too Much" Patto.
