There are three potential reasons you haven't had an answer

1) It can't be found on Google, which would mean that MAYBE there has been some Google cheating going on for other songs (likely)

2) It's one of your f***ing headbanging German type fringe underground bands (this too is quite likely)

3) No-one is online who knows/cares

One for ANY respectable Mod do!

Obscure..and I'd have said typical Paul Jones Blues influence rather than remotely Mod

4. It's a country song that was never a hit here

5. It was from the 1950s anyway

George Jones - White Lightnin'

It has many many versions, including waylon jennings, eddie cochran among others. One version was released in '62.

Though I think Icy Gull was referring to NMH

1. True. Google makes it too easy to cheat, but that great tune would be known to 60's aficionados only - as it don't get radio time now that'safoshore.

2. Untrue. Neither German, nor underground. Manfred is a German-type name though!

3. True and / untrue. EVERYONE has been furiously googling and scrambling to find out the answer, working their way round the office (where applicable) and tearing out their hair. TLO will have even plucked his goatee after I mentioned it was a Mod choon. Everyone who is anyone... cares.

4. I'm not trying to question you, or take part in any quiz
it's just that I don't have a watch and you keep asking me what time it is

Well, if it's obscure mod choons you're after...

When I first saw you this strange kind of feeling set my head a-reeling
Like I hit the ceiling.
The same thing happened to me then, baby.
Something kind of crazy and everything went hazy.

Easy peasy Shotgun Express.
I have that single and the follow-up "Funny Cos Neither Could I" which is similarly great but Rod's not singing lead.

Here's another, and certainly not obscure now;

I was walking down the street
(Do-wah do-wah)
When this girl started following me
(Oh yeah)
I ignored all the things she said
(Do-wah do-wah)
She moved me in every way

I started runnin'
my heart was hummin ...
