Grant Hall offered three year contract

Who knows about the reasons but the grass is not always greener and I just hope the young man has not got ahead of himself with his ambition and, like so many before him, ends up as a lower division journeyman, in what is, a very competitive business.

Or spend the best part of his career playing prem reserve football.

Or spend a career playing in our development squad. Let's be honest, he put in an excellent show against the team that finished 2nd in the league and then we went out to get Joe Mattock and even pursued him in the close season before he signed for Wednesday. It would appear that Hall's preferred position is as a centre back but surely we could have persevered with him at full back.

It's better for a player to sensibly gamble on their futures than it is to possibly stagnate where they are. If his chances are few here, then you can understand him wanting to jump from a ship he only rarely polishes the decks of.

Yes but if he can't oust Greer and el-abd what are his chances of doing that to Dawson and co? If anywhere championship club were after him, fair play, but the prem is a massive step up for most people

Look at Dunk and JFC! Everybody knew their potential, and they were patient and are both involved with the first team

Clearly Gus does rate as he has offered him a 3 year deal. If he was unsure, he would have offered 1 year surely. We also have no idea what went on behind the scenes and if we tried to negotiate earlier so this is just a guess based on an anti Gus agenda, which you are not the only person to have on here.

I'm certainly not anti-Gus but I don't view him as a god like figure as some others tend to do.

It's possible he doesn't believe his chances of playing will be greater at Spurs, but his training and the players he gets to share space with would be of a higher standard that he could grow to emulate. He's 20. He might as well give somewhere else a go, like many of us do with university, at such an age. His change of scenery would not be an all or nothing career move, but i imagine it would make him find out what sort of a man and player he is.
I'd rather he stay and work his nuts off to get in the team, but if he sees Dunk and El-Abd as his two main rivals for being Greer's partner, it would be one hell of a hard slog to overtake them, and you can understand really going for it at a larger club.
Good luck to him, i say.

Very sad really. Not to even let the club know what's going on, it would appear we are far better off without him.

Just hope a year or two down the line, when he's playing conference south, that he can forgive the person who has given him probably the worst advice he will ever get.

He's 20, and he doesn't know if he will break into the side??? WTF?? Sign the contract, try hard for 3 years, pay off a good chunk of your mortgage, and then look at the situation again when you are 23. Instead he's not told the club what's happening (like they really give a f*** about a 20 year old with attitude) and will probably end up back at Lewes or like in a year or so, if nto sooner.

Just be thankful Jake Forester-Caskey has someone giving him decent advice.

The thing about all this Spurs talk is, if Spurs wanted him, wouldn't have signed there by now. Who says Spurs actually want to sign him. If they did it would probably be along with another 20 or so players, one of whom may make it if lucky.

Also where does Tommy Elphick fit in to all this. Dont forget he is still a Brighton player too.

In years gone by I had no problem with anyone moving from the Albion, including Harding because we really didn't have much to offer in comparison to other clubs. But now we have Falmer and Gus and are going places, if some young player who is on the fringes and so short sighted that he wants out or is prevaricating on signing I'd say let's get shot. Let him take his chances elsewhere. Adios and good luck, there will be someone willing to fight for a place, it's not like we'll struggle to attract players.

I think we have to agree to disagree on this. From my point of view, you are laying the blame for Hall going at Gus' door even though none of us know what happened. You also suggest he does not rate Hall even though we have offered him a three year deal.

It all depends on the way you look at it. I don't think Gus is god like and he has definitely made mistakes but it seems to have become popular with some people on here to slag him off without any facts (unfairly in my view).

Personally I think he is crazy to leave this club. I hope it works out for him, I honestly do. It's a big statement to make from a 20 year old. I just hope it's not one of these decisions that we all make in life and end up looking back at it with regret.

Don't we normally regret NOT doing something? I thought especially as a youngster you have to dare before experience tames you.

I know he is a CB but TBH I thought he played fantastic as left back last season, he attacked and defended well and didnt look out of place, if we are getting a left back as the argus say I'd rather have Hall challenge for a starting spot with the new player ahead of painter and he is past it.

.. for 35 minutes, you mean?

He is a 6ft 4 right-footed CB who filled in very briefly, and (admittedly) fairly competently against Saints at LB after Tano was forced to come off in the 2nd half (we were down to the bare bones, remember). He is not a LB by any means. His future lies at CB, and I guess with 3 (possibly 4 with Elphick's return) players ahead of him in the pecking order, he is willing to go in search of first team football elsewhere.

Got a feeling he may end up joining another Championship club, though. The Spurs link makes little sense, to me.
