Jack Straw
I look nothing like him!
Acer griseum. Paper-bark Maple. This particular specimen is magnificent, especially in the autumn. This one. I think it's the one on the inner road.

There's a beautiful Arbutus at Great Dixter. Must go and revisit that garden. The Strawberry tree in the Rock Garden is around where I've put the red blob.

I have these a lot in my garden. My garden is very shaded so not many butterflies frequent it sadly. I occasionally get the similar looking Meadow Brown as well.Been a sad lack of butterflies in my garden for the last couple of years but this morning a surprise visitor, a Speckled Wood. Hastily taken with my phone and cropped so quality not brilliant. Don't remember seeing one in the garden before.View attachment 200655

'Pretty good' being an understatement - I've been trying for years and never got anything close to this! Not easy. These are pretty good.
Do they all have the same baldness pattern??!Randomly scrolling through the pics on my i-pad and came across this picture I took of a farrier a few years ago.

Maybe it's the horse hoof steam - or they've been kicked a few times in the head!!!
