I saw Jimmy Greaves relating some stories about Brian Dear once.
Apparently Brian Dear used to drink even more than Greavsie did!

He looked fantastic playing for us. He had plenty of skill but always looked like he was carrying a bit of extra timber.

Certainly one of our best loan players

Was it not Eric Steele?

No, Eric was long gone to Watford at the time.

Danish international Henning Boel - does anyone know the story of this? Was expected to play for us and even listed in a programme provisional line-up - but never played a league game for us.

Tony Meola - USA World Cup appearing goalie - I think he only played one game and I was there but can't remember who it was against.

1990, Meola signed on loan, he played eleven games, only two were league games. He gained his first start when he replaced the injured Perry Digweed and promptly won man of the match

In a few years threads like these will be littered with names that Adams bought in on loan in his 2nd spell with us. Al Bangura, Mikkel Anderson and Matt Heath to name but 3.

None of them signed by Adams. All signed by Dean White just before we played Orient in Slade's first game in charge. Lloyd Owusu also made his debut, and there was a fifth I'm sure of it... Ah, Gary Borrowdale!

Kieran O'Regan

I never saw him play, but my mum loved him and named me after him.

Jack Compton.

I remember the thread on here about someone's mate picking him up in a taxi to take him to sign for us. One of the few times one of those stories turned out to be true :lolol: Never played a game and went on loan to Lewes. Now playing for Portsmouth!

Cant believe no one has mentioned Stuart Myall... still playing until recently

And how about some Rye United stalwarts:

Scott Ramsey
Duncan McArthur
Liam Upton
Josh Pelling (gone to Hastings now I think)
