So many edges and either through the gap or didn't carry. Not really been England's day today

Close of play score, Day 1, bad light

287-3 (79.4 overs, RR3.60)

Smith 78* Voges 47*

New ball due in the morning... England need 2 or 3 wickets and a bit of control in the morning session, or face batting under serious pressure.

Wicket early today with the new ball and we can get into them. Sandwiches made and off to the station now.

Looking forward to a match that I think will go the distance. A high scoring draw will enable us to gather our breath. I can see a big hundred from an England batsman. Not sure who. I'm privately thinking Adam Lyth may get his head down here. Cricket on the TV and Albion on the radio tomorrow. Good times, perhaps.

TMS were just saying that there have been 32 reviews in this series so far and only 1 has resulted in the original decision being overturned, so well done the umpires. Perhaps they can concentrate more on calling no balls again now?!

Hopefully they will still be in bat tomorrow morning and we can bat out a day and half to get near their score so a high scoring draw based on 1st innings scores.

That is impressive. England didn't review one they should have a couple of tests ago, which would have been given out - can't remember who it was.

LUNCH

Best moment of a surprisingly slow morning here at the Oval. Surely Australia will have a bit of a go after lunch?
