Tony "The Tiger" Towner.

Halcyon days standing on a wooden crate at the front of the heaving East Terrace.

I liked TTT back then, a very balanced player who could totally skin defenders and leave them on their arses. I pitied any player on the East Terrace wing though, as the moaners were merciless over there for the slightest mistake.

I started Albion life on the East as a toddler, crawling under the fence or the turnstiles (and got moaned at as well!)

Fred Binney was a 'folk-hero' of mine in the early 70's, because I used to stand with some old guffers who were aghast at his sloth-like ability to score goals :clap2:

Frank Worthington.

I used to help my dad deliver the Sports Argus or the Night Final as it was known then. I would run the papers in from the van and he was always waiting in the newsagents up Valley Drive for his paper. Used to give me 50p a week, quality boke! Always wearing lots of gold and trendy clobber, have a look!?!

As a child, I wasn't an Albion supporter.

Favourite player was Colin "Rock" Hudson, who played on the wing for Newport County until he joined Cardiff City in 1957.

He signed for the Albion in 1961, but only played one first team game before rejoining County (for the massive fee of £2,000) in summer 1962.

I guess his one game for the Albion qualifies him for inclusion in this roll of honour.

Wasn't John Snow the Sussex wicket keeper? (my memory is going in my old age?)

No, John Snow was the Sussex and England fast bowler. He was extremely quick when the mood took him, and was very mouthy - a real anti-establishment figure.

Tony Towner was a sort of hero of mine - even though he punched me in the face when I scored an own goal against his team...mind you, that was in the playground when I was 9.

Geoff Hurst. Well I was only 9 when we won the World Cup! Quite liked Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore too.

I'd never heard of the Albion at that tender age!

Johan Cruyf - simply the best player in the world at the time

Graham Winstanley - sympathy vote really - Lawrenson always got picked.

By the way, this is for Yorkie. I know you're not used to world class cricketers in Yorkshire these days but this is not a wicket-keeper

I wasn't living in Yorkshire at the time Storer. For the record I have never watched a match at Headingly (apart from the tv) but I did used to go with my Dad to Hove.
Don't forget I have to go further back to my childhood than most on this board

I did remember that John Snow was a Sussex cricketer though.

I just couldn't remember what type of player he was.

I supported West Ham at Junior School as my Twin Brother had already chosen Brighton and hence Trevor Brooking was my favourite player. But after I saw the light, Ian Chapman.:clap2:

I had a picture of Ken Beamish by my bedside when I was 13.
Tony Towner and Sully were heroes as well.

Iattended Easter coaching at Sussex CCC when I was 15 and one of the coaches was John Snow; he obviously found the whole thing a chore and was very moody and offhand with us youngsters. A tremendous player though, the way he devastated the Kent top order in front of full house in a Gillette Cup quarter fnal at Hove in 74 will live with me for ever.

I couldn't play football to save my life as a kid. all my skills were learnt from watching Tommy Smith on TV. He would break a players leg just by looking at them.
