Was the same last season. Burnley seems trapped in a time warp and full of racist homophobic morons. It really is an ugly little town.

39 cans of Bow were destroyed between Burnley and London, not to mention 3 pints in the Mandy Dingle pub in Leeds.

Other than the CMS goal, highlight of the day was the Pound Shop where everything seemed to be £2.50.

Had plenty of abuse at my job (incidentally, in retail as you mentioned previously!) but I've been there long enough to know that that's just what happens. It ain't fair, probably ain't right but it happens

No, because in all of those other situations it's inappropriate to use abusive language. Not sure if you've ever been, but at football matches, people drink, swear, shout and generally act like twats that know everything there is to know about the game of football for 2 hours. This tends to result in abuse being thrown the way of players. It's a shocking concept I know, but I'm pretty sure the players are used to it because they are professionals and understand that their performances are not exempt from criticism just because they are playing for Brighton. I'd agree that personal abuse aimed at a player is wrong (i.e abuse regarding their family etc) and I'm not saying that I'm one to go out of my way to shout obscenities at players when I've had a drink, but quite frankly if Ashley Barnes balloons one over the bar from a yard or Gary Dicker makes another misplaced pass, anyone who has paid their entrance fee has a right to call them a turd in the heat of the moment because we are football supporters and that is part of the joy of being one.

Welcome to reality.

If your answer to that is also no, then what you're basically saying is that its not the money, its simply the fact that its football, and its okay to be abusive at the football. So why is it okay to be abusive at football, when you would not do it in any other situation, just beacuse you're in a crowd and everyone else is doing it?

If you ever read the terms & conditions of your ticket, foul & abusive language is not acceptable. We all know it happens but I have seen fans thrown out for it, Sunderland away for example. When there are only 477 Albion fans, some of whom are families with kids, then it isn't as acceptable as being in a crowd of 2 or 3K which would mask the potty mouth.

Mate, football never was about hero worship, well not until about the year 2000 when suddenly grown men started wearing football shirts and the Newcastle disease caught on. Football was about a day with the family or mates. A day when people would have a drink, say stupid things, and maybe see a win. So he swore, so you dont like him slagging off a player, so get over it. Slagging off players whether they deserve it or not is all a part of the fun of the fare. Especially slagging off players who dont deserve it, hence we all used to find the "Wendy Wilkins" tag funny. Did he deserve the grief he got? Not at all, but somehow, that made it quite funny. Understand?

Interesting post, you're right, I remember repeatedly groaning and moaning at players at the Goldstone and away games throughout the nineties, rarely loudly, but getting annoyed all the same - and yet I'm now part of the 'support all our players' crowd.

I think its because we're still flying up during the rollercoaster ride that Gus and TB have us on. Once it settles down the moaning will become more normal, but not for several seasons yet I hope

And that there were probably a million other uses of the word **** at the weekend at football grounds all over the country for both players playing for and against the respective sides of the person using it. Think you're just being too PC, there I said it!

Blimey, your intelligence is REALLY on the wane. I asked if you thought the term "Wendy Wilkins" was on a par with calling someone a see you next Tuesday. I also asked you to explain what is 'funny' about it. Your 'referral' does neither...

In fact your "everyone does it" argument is pretty lame, if I'm honest. Why? Well 1) NOT everyone does it; 2) Even if everyone did do it, it doesn't make it right; and 3) It's an easy get out of answering or responding to some pretty reasonable scenarios that people have put forward.

Oh come on, we may have a superb ground, good team, not bad kit, and a future but that should not deprive us from finding something to moan about...

On the swearing front, yes it gets annoying when some people constantly swear but the odd expletive is something we should put up with, especially if its totally un called for and directed at one of our best players as that really is comedy in action. Maybe Buckley will be our next Wendy Wilkins..

It's not so much the choice of word that I have the issue with (although it's almost the worst he could have picked), it's the way it's said and who it's to.
If it was at a Burnley player, I couldn't have cared less but because it was aimed at Buckley who had a fair game it's just madness.
