There's been some players seriously not doing their future many favours here. Is it time for a bit of a changing of the guard? Got to be question marks over Anderson and Prior, Jordan must do much better, Cook is struggling.

Lead goes to 253, with 3 wickets in hand... this is looking like a pretty stiff ask for England now.

We've already got 5 players with only a handful of caps between them... Robson, Ballance, Ali, Jordan & Plunkett. And Root has only 16 caps. How many more rookies do you think would be wise??

We need a wicket and we need it NOW.

Does any one know why Joe Root hasn't bowled? Surely worth a couple of overs on his home ground simply for the variety?

I must say, as frustrating as it is to be a fan of English Cricket recently...

I am certainly getting my pennies worth at the bookies since last Autumn, During the Ashes and ever since I have taken to backing Englands opponents in play, as soon as England have a decent session or look like they should win a game.

Got 4/1 on SL when England were 340-7 yesterday. Looking like yet another sound investment this time. Captian Cook up has got the winning mentality of a phesant during shooting season....

Review... LBW on Herath...

and that is SO close... clipping the bails... but stays with the onfield umpire. NOT OUT.

Fair point, but do we keep them in just for experience - While not appearing to be panicking, we've been a bit crap for 18 months now, maybe it's time to break up the old guard a bit, put some of them out to pasture (or at least threaten to)

FWIW - I'd replace Anderson & Prior (wouldn't have bought him back in the first place) now and watch how Cook & Jordan get on next couple of matches.

Cook's over-cautious declaration in the last test is coming back to HAUNT him now. At worst we should have won this series 1-0, increasing it's looking like we're going to lose it 1-0. Shambolic captaincy.

Well that was the only way we looked like getting a wicket. Mathews poor call when farming the strike. Herath run out for 48.

426-8 at tea - Mathews 149*

Lead 318, with 37 overs left on day 4.
