Leeds - but not the dirty bit
I was looking at the 57kwh id3.

Actually plumped for a Kia e-niro 4+, the extra bit of battery for Brighton and back from Essex was key for me.

Picking it up tomorrow.
You won't be disappointed, a lovely car, also covered by that lovely 7 year warranty.

Looks like I'll need a few hours to get to grips with the infotainment panel

Very jealous of the Ioniq 5 owners on here. The MG ZS is doing us proud, and it’s got nothing wrong with it, but the Ioniq 5 was a cut above.

I saw my first new Renault 5 “in the wild” last week too, so UK deliveries have clearly started. That’s another really decent car, though I wish there was a larger battery option.
The 5 is the most fun EV I've ever driven. Not the best performance or dynamics, but just puts a smile on your face. I could even possibly live with the driving range, which is probably 220 in the real world. Trouble is, a bigger battery pushes the price up and also potentially competes with other models.

I honestly think Renault has a huge seller there. It's what Ford should've done with the Fiesta before it got cold feet (went mad) and canned it.

Do you guys have solar as well?
Can you charge directly from solar during the day, as well as cheap overnight?
I have solar, yes.

I charge the battery overnight to 100% all year round. That's charged at 7p/kwh and then either discharge during the day (winter) or export to the grid at 15p/kwh.

Simples

Should only charge to 80% unless you need the 100%. Will help preserve battery life.

Let me know if you get any time with an Alpine A290, I’d appreciate your feedback on whether it’s worth the extra over the standard Renault 5.

A lot of what Alpine list as their modifications seem a bit gimmicky to me.

Those of you who have taken the leap to an EV, how have you found the insurance costs? Have they gone up a bit?
I only renewed the insurance on my ICE less than a month before buying my new EV (picking it on this Saturday). Was pleasantly surprised to see that there was an increase but only by about 15% which, when you consider the increased value of the new vehicle I thought was pretty reasonable.

Nothing nicer than a new toy to play with for a while. Once you have set up most things to your preference you'll not have to mess about again.

Picked up my EV today and spent a while getting the setup done.

Do people on here generally use the drive mode or regenerative braking mode when they are driving?

I have a Model Y. I've set the regenerative braking to max and use this to brake all the time with the one pedal. I virtually never need to touch the brake pedal.

Purchased the Mrs an Audi Q4 E-tron Sportback. Very pleased with it, nice comfortable drive good 300 mile range on a full charge and charges for 7p anytime rate. I get 20p export on my solar panels so most of the time we are being paid to drive it. Only need to charge it once a week too.

Loads of room in it so great for the kids. Only thing I don’t like is the brakes are a bit spongy compared to my BMW and this seems to be common theme in the reviews.

Based on 3 weeks with it, I would recommend it certainly for a 2nd car, not sure I am ready to let go of my 520d yet though but the i5 is £94k new so won’t be getting one of them!

All being well we will move house in a couple of months. We had a Ohme Home Pro installed last July and just wondered if anyone had moved house and taken the charger with them to the new house?

From what I understand, moving the charger invalidates the warranty and the cost to decommission and reinstall is broadly cost neutral to simply buying a new one but keen to hear any real world experience here.

Also pretty sure if we had the Gov Grant in my name at the current house we could apply for a new grant at the new house in Mrs G’s name?

Thanks

whats drive mode?
My Enyaq has two modes, the first is straight drive, the second has regenerative braking by default so as soon as I lift, it started braking rather than just cruising in drive mode. If that doesn’t make sense I’m sure @Greg Bobkin can give a better technical explanation.

You'll get used to driving with regenerative braking very, very quickly.

Initially, you may lift off a little bit early, meaning you come to a standstill before you intended, but before long, you will be able to judge it accurately and you'll rarely touch the brake pedal ever again. It becomes a bit of a game.
