damn i hate this man hopefully this might get it through his thick skull:-
If you had any inkling as to why this should NEVER be done you would do the right thing and retract that statement. How you can say it is uninspiring is beyond belief.
This club has gone through imeasurable torment over the last decade-
threatened with being wound up- on more than one occasion.
taken over by persons only interested in profit margins
the loss of a home for nearly a hundred years
forced to play home games with a 150 mile round trip
nearly relegated out of the football league not once but nearly twice
a succesfull take over by a board determined to give us a proper home in brighton
two championships in two seasons

I hear we won't be running out to our TRADITIONAL Sussex by the Sea this Saturday?

But having just read the piece - he shows a spectacular lack of understanding of what it is to be a Brighton fan. We don't have music after we score (naff), we don't have cheerleaders (sexist), we don't have a roof (shite), we do have Paul Samrah's warcry (hilarious). Apart from the roof bit, we won't want that at Falmer either. What does he think this is - f***ing ice hockey?

If he wants us to follow the West Ham way of doing things, why doesn't he f*** off to West Ham? This is Brighton, guv.

Good Old Sussex by the Sea is our birthright.

On NSC for over two decades...
I seem to remember the Club actually put this same suggestion to the fans a couple of years ago. Our response was that we wanted Sussex by the Sea!!

(They didn't say GOSBTS was uninspiring though!!)

Either this or he is a joke, run out to anything other than GOSBTS, to quote a member of the Royle family "My arse".

Fot me it is probably "the" most inspiring piece of music ever composed, more so than the National Anthem, Rule Brittania or Land of Hope and Glory.

I believe it was sung during the First World War by members of a Sussex Regiment as they marched off to meet their fate at the hands of the Germans, what more fitting tune to send our players onto the pitch and in a way pay tribute to the sons of Sussex who never returned.

You can take our home away from us and build retail outlets where we once cheered on our team, you can force us into exile for two years and then expect us to sit in the rain at a converted athletics track, but threatening to get rid of GOSBTS would be a declaration of war.

I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window
I saw the flickering shadows of love on her blind
She was my woman
As she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind

Guy, Guy, Guy, Guy Butters
Guy, Guy, Guy, Guy Butters
I could see that girl was no good for me
But I was lost like a slave that no man could free
At break of day when that man drove away, I was waiting
I cross the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more
Guy, Guy, Guy, Guy Butters
Guy, Guy, Guy, Guy Butters
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me delilah I just couldn’t take any more

[insert trumpet solo here]

She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more
My, my, my, delilah
Why, why, why, delilah
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me delilah I just couldn’t take any more
Forgive me delilah I just couldn’t take any more

Christ, it's Albion through and through. GOSBTS is Albion. Only problem is when we try and sing it ourselves and end up breaking a few panes of glass while doing the pre-amble bit :lolol: Gets a bit high :lolol:

Well done Andy. It's always a good idea for a journalist to write something that will mark him down as an arse by 99% of those who read his stuff. Jesus wept.

stick this inyour pipe mr naylor:-
(i.e. what i meant to post which is what i sent him.)

threatened with being wound up- on more than one occasion.

nearly relegated out of the football league not once but nearly twice
a succesfull take over by a board determined to give us a proper home in brighton
two championships in two seasons
a play off final appearance and victory.

Do you know what the only two consistent factros were throughout this time
the fans unwavering support
AND Good Old Sussex By the Sea.

Thanks to the work of many we now have a football club that i believe, like many others, will be around for a long time to come- certainly long after you have finished plying your trade with inept and inert reporting.
Furthermore dont tell people like us who have been through hell or high water with and for this football club what is or is not inspiring.
Leave that to the peoplethat really care about it.

Regards,

Brighton fan for 17 years.

before you all go off on one...read the article.

he was in certain areas right!

He mentioned that there are 6000 people in the stands and not all of them like Atilla's choice of "music"......."when you have a crowd of 6000 people representing a broad section of the population, you need to play songs which the vast majority can readily identify with rather than a selection of personal favourites A meledy of up-tempo mainstream chart sounds combined with some old favourites would surely be more appropriate"

He mentioned that the way we do things at Withdean is amateurish compared to other teams. ....paul Samrah should stand on the pitch to announce the team not stuck away in a little box..."the present hand signals from somebody near the tunnel area to the tannoy box......is not unknown for this to be mistaken as a wave to a friend.....or simply be missed...."

He thought we should have something a bit more upbeat to welcome the team on to the pitch " Right here, Right Now" by FBS perhaps

Some interesting points

I think Attila is playing the ska version of GOSBTS instead - just to gauge a reaction... :lolol:

It's spooky Naylor should raise this issue at the very time that a new version has just been recorded. BTW - it sounds feckin wicked. Definitely worth the £3.99...

No, they're not interesting at all - especially that last one. In fact, I'd say it's a load of shit. I doubt even Norman Cook would want that and I certainly don't.

being a Yorkshireman I have no axe to grind eitherway on GOSBTS, however, to jazz it up is in my eyes a bit like having a punk version of Jerusalem.:nono: :nono: :nono:

interesting yes, and i would agree that some sort of contiuity regarding a mixture of classics and new material would be good but if he thinks the team need to have a more upbeat tempo then might i suggest he talks to leon and albert who according to recent programme notes choose the music in the dressing room...

It shouldn't really matter anyway.

I'd much rather the players ran out to the crowd singing. I hate grounds that play music.

I e-mailed him this:

Hi,

Just like to say that you obviously dont have a clue what you're talking about in regards to ditching GOSBTS for the teams run out, I know, why dont you ring West Ham and tell them to ditch their Bubbles song? yeah ok and while you're there pop by the Queens gaff and tell her to Ditch the National Anthem in favour of something more upbeat....like Steps or S Club 7!

Hoping you bugger off back to Stoke,
From a TRUE Brighton fan!

but that is the whole point isn't it andy.

the singing section only start singing if Krispies or the gang in front of him( or me occasionally) starts singing and they get when the team is out normally

There was good debate on 606 about singing at grounds on saturday, suggesting that as the government wanted more families at grounds and to price out the hooligans, people have become sanitised into sitting and watching at home matchesinstead of singing like most teams do at away games..
