First car was a MK1 capri face lift , the model between the MK1 and MK2.
My second to last car when in UK was a MK4 Cortina, ex taxi well looked after and most reliable car I had.
Kept for 3 years and sold for 100 quid more than I paid for it!

Leg out of the bed
Hand painted black 1600E with grey fluffy seat covers and a 1300 rear axel, went like shit off a shovel.

I think mine must have had the lower 1200 rear axle ratio, as the acceleration from a standing start was phenomenal, but it would only do about 75mph flat out ???

Had a gorgeous Mark 1 for about a week. Was in my girlfriends one night heard a big crash, went out to find that a motor bike had run into the back of it and shunted it forward into a lamp-post. End of Mark 1:cry:

And the rider? Flew over the top of the car and landed in the road in front of it. Not injured as far as I know!

My dad owned one of them as well. Does anyone remember the song by The Lambrettas? See below for the lyrics.

There's a girl livin' down our street
She used to be mine
She used to go out with me
But now she's left with the boy next door
Because he's bought a Cortina Ford

She gives him love on the leatherette
Steamin' up the glass
Because I've seen her
But she only loves him because he's got a Cortina

Column change is neat neat neat
Gives you room for manoeuvre on the front bench seat
And the disc brakes hold you if you're inclined
The rear light clusters are a modern design

She gives him love on the leatherette
Steamin' up the glass
Because I've seen her
But she only loves him because he's got a Cortina

And I wish I had
I wish I had
I really wish I had a Cortina

It's a guarantee of sexual conquest
But be sure to choose a model with retractable arm-rest
And if she wants to make up
You can really suprise her
There's a vanity mirror on the nearside visor

She gives him love on the leatherette
Steamin' up the glass
Because I've seen her
But she only loves him because he's got a Cortina

And I wish I had
I wish I had
I really wish I had a Cortina

Had some cash you know what I'd do
Read the ads in the local rag
Buy a little Mark II
Wheel trims
Everything
Four door
Two speeds wipers
Goin' in for the kill elbow on the windowsill
Flickin' on the cigarette lighter

And then you know she'd give me love on the leatherette
Steamin' up the glass
Because I've seen her
But she only loves him because he's got a Cortina

And I wish I had
I wish I had
I really wish I had a Cortina
Hey

Very nice indeed - what model was it 1600/2000GXL ?

Cheers mate. It was a 1600L, automatic. Only had 32,000 on the clock when I bought it in 2005 (I think), as previous owner had only had one leg. It spent the whole year garaged, and he'd then take it for its MOT and garage it again. Amazing. I bought it off eBay for about £900, sold it for £1,700.
