I'm not sure why lots of people on here criticise Naylor for having a good relationship with MM. For crying out loud, Naylor's JOB is to talk to the manager of Brighton (whoever he/she may be) and fill up the Argus with what he/she says.

I would hope that EVERY Albion manager works on establishing a good working relationship with local journalists like Naylor.

The problem with McGhee seems to me to be that, by the end, he was putting more effort into cultivating his relationship with Naylor than he was to maintaining a good working relationship with either Dick Knight or the team. Once this became obvious to DK, it was inevitable that MM had to go.

My fear is that, once Naylor manages to get hold of MM (when he returns from "abroad"), there'll be some sort of "devastating statement" that will inflame this row even more.

And some people will just love that.

No he didn't. Why are you making things up? It really doesn't help Dick Knight to actively misrepresent McGhee. Look at the exact quote from McGhee, he says he accepted that he has lost SOME of the fans, but that no one could quantify the true numbers.

I was never 100% sure of Uncle Buck's view that Naylor was happy to sing McGhee's song for him (although I've not been reading the Argus much recently, to be honest) but I thought today's back page - on the strength of which I bought the paper - was a real something out of nothing story which I see has already been gleefully picked up on by the resident SCR DK bashers for the thousandth time again. Oh dear.

How does that work again? I would have thought McGhee would be utterly angry and disgusted at today's back page of the Argus, the comments contained in which drags his managerial reputation through the mud.

The idea that McGhee is still working his powers through Andy Naylor really is an utterly bizarre conspiracy theory.

Naylor was reduced to having to follow up the McGhee story that appeared in that recent Brighton freesheet, although there was little essentially new in it except the mention of the Cardiff players.

But that illustrates that Naylor and McGhee are not as close as some on here would rather simple-mindedly have you believe

Naylor is now simply scrambling to follow up what happened on the phone-in last Saturday when it appears Dick Knight made some kind of gaffe (although now we are being told it is deliberate? Tit for tat with McGhee, for what exactly?)

It is true that the Argus sports editor did have a difficult decision whether to run the story today, because it appears Dick Knight withdrew all co-operation with the Argus at the last minute. Why did he do that? Is it a recognition that he made a mistake on the phone-in last Saturday in saying what he did?

Naylor and Chris Giles the Argus sports editor clearly thinks there is story to be told here, that explains the Argus back page.

But the fact is, this publicity helps neither McGhee or Knight. So put away the silly conspiracy theories, it is just a bunch of hacks at the Argus asking some awkward questions that perhaps most of us by now wish were not being asked.

I know it was after McGhee had gone, that's the point I'm making. Has Wilkins lost the fans because of the mass walkout at the Blackpool game? I say no, but people use exactly the same evidence to say yes for McGhee re. Crewe. Blatant double standards.
