Dennis Bergkamp & Liam Brady

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
A couple of hours ago Diego Poyet tweeted, The Taricco's and the Poyets all out for dinner togeather. Maybe they have something to celebrate. If it is all sorted with Poyet, then maybe this could be sorted soon (although I like the sound of that Oscar fella).

They socialise together on a regular basis. I wouldn't have thought that meant anything.

Why are so many happy about the idea of Liam Brady here? He was rubbish as a Brighton manager and even worse at Celtic. He was a brilliant player but that is not what is required of great managers.

One of the potential attractions of the Brady / Bergkamp combo is their names are more than sufficiently high profile to create all the right factors within the club / boardroom / dressing room / and with fans and the media for all to move on from the current debacle.

Dare I also suggest the Brady / Bergkamp combo would have sufficient credibility across the footie world to be seen as a significant step forward for The Albion both on and off the pitch.....................and if someone chooses would nicely provide two fingers up to anyone departing under a cloud.

@piltdown man It was meant as a joke. I think there are a few people around here who think that including that phrase lends their speculations some extra credibility.

I realised the irony that's what made me chuckle!!

Wow! This is a 'left field' suggestion, but maybe just crazy enough to work. Bergkamp as manager preaching 'shexy' football and Brady bringing on and recruiting new players to the DS. Both got good connections, so maybe worth a punt.

I don't recall him being rubbish. He tookover a team that couldn't win for toffee and managed to instill some sort of belief and structure, whilst having £0 to spend on anyone. Before leaving due to the off field shenanigans.

Brady was quality off the field with us but it is right that he did come to us after a difficult time at Celtic. You cant judge him on what happened on the field at brighton for obvious reasons. Since then many say he did a great job with Arsenal's youth academy.

Depends what his remit is, he has done an amazing job with the Arsenal youth set-up helping to bring through a number of young players at Arsenal. If he come here as 'director of football' and his focus is on the academy it will be a real boon for the club, with the added bonus of some great contacts around the game. Plus he has been an assistant to Trapattoni with the Republic, all good experience to pass on to a young manager like Bergkamp.

I think Bergkamp is probably further along his development than Poyet was before he came here, and much less likely to be in the press as much as Poyet.

If this and the Oscar rumours have any truth in them it seems clear Tony wants to go back down the young manager route.

One would assume that Bergkamp would be the first team manager/coach given that he already has assistant manager status at Ajax and maybe Brady have some sort of mentoring director of footie role overseeing the evolution of the new training complex academy?

All very hypothetical of course but it would be interesting to see the first day of training when Bergkamp runs his eye over our existing squad and gets them doing some technical skills. I think he would approve of Orlandi but wonder what he would make of Ryan Harley (if he is still with us?).

Brady as youth development sounds great.

Bergkamp as manager not so sure. I liked a Hodgeson quote where he mentioned that the foundation for management is set on energy and enthusiasm, he didn't initially agree with it. When he met Ferguson he realised the guy oozed it.

Did Gus come away with egg on his face? Sour grapes for dessert perhaps

Maybe they'll get another bite of the cherry...

Bad idea. Especially in 5 seasons when we are drawn up against Inter Milan, Fenerbahce and Skonto Riga in the group stages of the Champions League and we have to travel away.

blimey, that would be an interesting combo. If we all think back, who wasn't gobsmacked when Gus was unveiled? I for one could not believe it at the time so why not with us in the rafters of the Championship wouldn't the mercurial DB choose BHA to dip his toes into the holy grail of English football management. I have no issue with Liam Brday as an assistant to Dennis. Also, all those over excited folk who got a shirt printed with his "nephew's" name on it can again wear them proudly, rather than in acute embarassment at having got it so wrong.

Liam Brady is the ideal assistant. Best appointment for local youth imaginable, no exaggeration.

Bergkamp ticks all the boxes IF going for inexperienced (yet been assistant etc.) type. Amazeballs player, CALMER character than Gus (not a Di Canio type) and world wide contacts PLUS Prem contacts (especially in London / SE). Think a Chelsea/Spurs/Arsenal connection would be very useful in tying up players like Bridcutt and Ince.

Big  from me although same with Oscar IF he speaks English well. No British connection but more experience whilst still new, dynamic, modern etc.

Darren/Duncan Ferguson? Who??

He wasn't rubbish. He came in and brought Jimmy Case and Mark Flatts with him. All of a sudden we were playing in front of 14k (prob more like 18) in the 3rd division and thumping a couple of sides. It was a real partisan crowd at that time at the goldstone too. Just a shame that the Archer Bellotti mess took over and stumped him. Remember he bought Dickov in too? A decent manager and a great coach. We could do worse than this duo.

Liam Brady in a Director of Football (Development) role, overseeing the Academy, while offering some guidance to the young and inexperienced Denis Bergkamp. Give DB a solid assistant, who has been there and done it, and I think we are flying.

I would LOVE this to happen.
