Totally disagree. In the early premier league days he was probably my favourite player. I vividly recall him eclipsing Jack Grealish once when we played Villa - outrunning and outmuscling him.

Hopefully this is no worse than lack of motivation. Reading some Dutch interviews with Pröpper in the past he strikes me as a down-to-earth guy not entirely comfortable with the spotlight. I remember reading that fishing is his big passion in life, which might say a thing or two about his personality as it is pretty much as far as you can come from the self-exposure culture in football (and in general).



Dunno about that. The vast majority of billionaires are born billionaires and probably works no harder than your average NHS worker.

70% of billionaires are self made according to Forbes. The millionaires I’ve worked with (either execs at my employer or with partner organisations) all work very very hard and appear to be at 24/7 even when on holiday.

That’s ridiculous, you could see in his last year here for us, he was out of sorts. Being made to continue with football behind closed doors, so the EPL and various other leagues throughout the world could still honour contracts, and keep the monster rolling. He was not comfortable with that, it was clear to see in his body language. He probably went back to Holland thinking it would not be as bad, however it is, also controlled by money, he’s clearly not happy.

To us, Davy Pröpper is a former Brighton player, but in the real world he is also a father, husband, brother, fisherman, multi-layered personality, affected by things that goes on in his life and the world around. If the problem was not playing entertaining football / not playing much it would have been quite easily resolved but when he speaks of "uncomfortable with football culture" I think it probably has more to do with his personality not fitting in with how you're expected to be in football: pressure on your shoulders to perform every day, riding around in big cars flashing your nice clothes on Instagram, getting hundreds of nasty comments from fans and random people when you have a shitty day... all amplified over in England where the generally sick football culture is even sicker.

In our minds where footballers are only footballers, a lot might seem to be down to Chris Hughton or Graham Potter or Roger Schmidt (PSV manager) but reality is far more complex than that.

Now is it really? Compared to fan culture, media and social media "feedback", ridiculous wages, pressure to play, dodgy "legal" drugs and medication pushed onto players that also seem to occur in Latin America, Spain or Italy? England is worse is it? Yet you're still all over us like a bloomin rash? I assume you're fishing really.

The general jist was:-

'You can't bring steamrolling the championship form into the Premier League, without adding a further string to the bow'.

They went on to rather glibly say, Norwich need a long throw specialist.
Basically anything to mix it up a bit.

I instantly thought of:-

Groß and to a lesser extent Propper and Ryan.

That's exactly what those shrewd buys did.
They came into an excellent championship side and added a different level, which was just enough to keep the club in the division.

Hope it works out well for him and he has no regrets (as he's only 30). We'd all love to have been able to play the game at his level (in theory) but maybe it just isn't fun anymore for him. I have a distaste for lots of things about the modern football world. I dont think I'm the only one who has those feelings while also following it (since it is a fantastic sport after all).
