In what way did Welbeck contribute more than Maupay yesterday?

If Welbeck made a lot of clever runs while Maupay didnt, how come Maupay saw significantly more of the ball?

Welbeck passed the ball 13 times yesterday, in 86 minutes, and failed 3 of them. Maupay passed the ball 34 times, and failed 3 of them.

Statistically there is nothing that indicates his alleged brilliance, but statistics only tell half the story, so I'm curious about what specific situations he looked like "exactly what we've been missing"?

THAT was exactly what we’ve been missing.

The most complete performance from a striker for us in the Premier League. Absolutely fantastic.

A hell of a signing.

I was fairly underwhelmed by Welbeck as a signing, but have to say he was exceptional today. Real class and very clever up front.

Adds a dimension we were sorely lacking and fits the way we play perfectly.

Keep this up and he’s going to make a bigger impact at this club then Lallana.

Exceptional from Welbz, proving the doubters wrong, you can see why he has as.many England caps and goals. An absolute class act.

Our man of the match. Cracking finish and ran himself into the ground. Great pick up on a free.

Agree with the positive comments on here. I thought he was excellent today. He is a key part of moving us to the next level. Imagine how much Maupay and Connolly will learn from his presence in the team.

It just goes to prove that class is permanent.

We've been scouting around for ages to uncover players that fit our criteria, and to be fair we've singed a few promising ones, Lamptey for one obviously, White too.

But many players we have looked at and singed the Albion fans have not the slightest clue as to who they are, or what they're like as players.

Then Lallana & Welbeck, two very well known class players come into our squad and suddenly...BANG! We start playing like we belong in the top half of the Premier League, just as Tony said he wanted us to aspire to.

Buying talent like them is not rocket science, nurturing and protecting them is, let's hope we keep getting the best from both of them, and others that come into the squad.

Comfortably MoM today - superb all over the pitch and great calm, composed finish for his goal.

Maupay needs a goal to go in off any part of his body. Wellbeck is like Murray just as good in his own area as upfront

Watching the two of them today Welbecks positioning is so much better then he is a seasoned PL player, getting a bit bored of petulant Maupay when he’s having a shocker. Potter had to take him off surprised it wasn’t earlier.
