Poor BDB, for some reason the focus of the MOTD post game analysis, which seemed a bit cruel.

It really was that bad though - hard for them to pick on anything else. Had had an absolute nightmare from the start until he was put out of his misery. And not only about being up against Traore. Headed an attack by us in completely the wrong direction, needlessly conceded a corner leading to their goal, touch of a toblerone from a promising cross from March when we should have scored, and at one point passed the ball straight out of play under no pressure. It looked like we’d plucked someone from NSC to have a go at playing in a Premier League match.

Traore had no joy at all for the first third of the game. He was double-teamed effectively by Burn and March.
March was then switched to the right wing for a while - hardly the first time this has happened - and Trossard had the responsibility that March previously had.
Trossard was nowhere to be seen defensively, and Burm was isolated one on one by one of the best wingers in the game.

But yeah, it's all Burn's fault, and his alone.

Where have all you haters come from?

Yep, BDB was left exposed by a tactical shift that brought little in the way of attacking success but did cause massive disruption at the back.

Last season Burn did surprisingly well, so although it's not his best or preferred position we know he can do a job there.

It's funny people slagging off Potter for playing DB out of position, but also want Alzate to play RWB :ffsparr:

Did you mean LWB? Alzate did a job job at RWB last season, don't see why he couldn't fill in for Lamptey again in that position. I remember Alzate did a good job against Zaha at CP away last season (only after Alzate was subbed off did Zaha score).

I actually liked what Potter said in post post match conference about BDB. His desire and professionally isn’t in question- it’s just he not a premier league player this seasons form. He was clearly playing out of his skin last season

I'm gonna defend Dan Burn. The headlines from the game don't tell the full story for me.

He wasn't terrorised by Traore for 90 mins. He got badly done twice. Once he gave away a stupid penalty (my far his biggest mistake), the other time he probably made quite a sensible foul and took a yellow. He also made more than one very good one on one tackle (can't remember if it was Traore or not).

The header that went out for a corner - we've all seen every defender do that.

The OG - on Sanchez/bad luck for me. Again I've seen world class players score that type of OG.

The "missed chance" - if he had controlled that and managed to put it away, he wouldn't be playing left back for us.

I think everyone, including himself, knows deep down that he is not a Premier League left back, especially not for a team that wants to play with wing backs. However, he's come in and done a job last year, it's a squad game. Give him a break.

That's my point, neither of those players are suited to the wing back role, it's not their preferred or specialised position. However, we know from last season both are capable of doing a job there.

I just find it odd that people have decided to moan about Potter doing the same this season with Burn, but then they also suggest playing Alzate in the same role

Good squad player who gives his all and has had some great games for us. He should not be rubbished by our fans when he should not have been played in that position for that game.

I do believe it was on Traore, he had him contained in the first ten, the tackle for the penalty was a whisker away from being a good tackle, Sanchez pushed the ball into a dangerous area for the OG. He had a game to forget, but he can count on his right hand his bad games for us.

This 100%. He is an average player giving his all and a decent bloke. No need to crucify the bloke because somebody played him at left back against one of the fastest wingers in the league.

Yeah leave Dan Burn alone... he did a great job for us last season, always gives 100% for our club.

I think most players would look a mug up against Traore. Really impressive player.

Saw him walking his dog at Green Ridge this morning with a heavily pregnant Mrs, hood up to avoid too much attention.

I gave him some positive words and to not worry about the odd mistake and he and the wife seemed to really appreciate it. #Together

Alzate does have some attributes that make him suitable for a wing back role, although that's not his natural position, Burn on the other hand doesn't. That's nothing against Burn, it's on the recruitment to bring in a decent LWB/LB, and on Potter to play players in their best positions.

Did well last season but doesnt seem upto it this year. Being played out of position doesnt help though, as he's not a left back nor a wing back. Centre back cover at best for me.
