Yes, if you can't go to games then don't have a season ticket. What if the club have 5000 people who've had a ST since being a kid but they are now in the 70s or 80s and not so mobile and only get to one or two games a year. Do you think the club should put up with 5000 empty seats most games.

Nobodies saying you can't go to games, just that you need to pick and chose and if you can't commit to the minimum the club state then don't have a season ticket. People's circumstances change!!
They’re not going to have empty seats, they go on the exchange. We’re talking about one season where circumstances change - not age, mobility etc. Don’t know about you but my ST is about who I sit with more than anything else - you’re giving that up.

I think it’s about loyalty.
In terms of season tickets what is loyalty, is it how long you have been going, distance you cover to travel to games, how many Albion tattoos you have - there is no clear definition of loyalty other than the fact a fan supports the Albion. Circumstances change for all so how do you them measure a fans that has been going for 50 years then falls sick so cant make many games in a season to a fan who has been going to all home and away games for 2 seasons?
They are both loyal supporters so which one deserves a season ticket? I am not expecting an answer I don't think there is one just trying to illustrate we are all loyal in different ways.

I don't think anybody deserves a season ticket. It's not some kind of Blue Peter badge. Buy one or don't buy one

Cant really disagree BUT as far as the club appear concerned loyalty is ££££££££££££££££££££££££££ football at the highest levels is no longer a 'working mans game'.

You mean, if you're old and grey and not terribly well, then you need to clear off and die quietly so that a younger person can have the ticket?

The problem with cancelling season tickets for a year (as per the post you refer to) is that when you get back, you won't get the same seat. Some people (I dare say most people) if they attend games with their family, would like to be sat next to them, not in a random seat somewhere else in the ground which is all they would get after a season off.

Obviously I get that sending them off with a flea in their ear (and perhaps sending their family off as well) may be good for business short term, but is it the way forward?

I don't think the club is as rigorous and dogmatic as you would like them to be. All the evidence (tone of emails notwithstanding) is that they are sympathetic to people with genuine reasons for non-attendance.

On another tack, lauras wedding is on the Saturday of the Newcastle game ( which is now Sunday). I will try to get there driving back from Salisbury, but if I am delayed and can’t make it, will the club send me a shitty email about not being a good fan?

Send them a written apology in advance.

Sadly true in the modern game but not just at Brighton.

After Saturday maybe you should all be careful what you wish for? A cancelled season ticket seems quite appealing at the moment

Rubbish, only going for 50 years, that's not enough loyalty to deserve a season ticket.

You really need to have been present on 28 November 1973 0-4 loss to Walton and Hersham1 December 1973 2-8 loss to Bristol Rovers, among others rather than a JCL

Love this as a subterfuge tactic!

Ring ring, ring ring…”Hello, is that Herr T?”, “Speaking…”, “Due to non-attendance, we’re cancelling your ST. Have you anything to say before we do?”, “….Just thank you!”
