That would be great if we could get him to sign a new deal. But i'm sure his agent would counsel him against it. If the player has performed well, it's probably in his interests to run the deal down and see what CL clubs are coming in for him

If he’s that good we could be a CL club.

It's mental, but it's the way the game is going.

The club must have an inkling that this lad is going to be Yamal / Doue good. But there are huge dangers. Progress at that age is far from linear. There are a lot of unknowns as to whether he adapts, settles etc. Clubs following this path will get badly burned sometimes. Probably we will at some point. But hopefully not here
Not seen such expectations for an 18 year old since Evan Fergusson. 🤔

If this story is true then this feels like a step change. This amount of cash for a 17 year old is mental, the fact Albion are potentially paying it is off the scale nuts.
The last time we changed approach this much was for a Dutch DJ. I hope this isn't a similar result.
Shirley the last big change of approach was when we signed Joao Pedro?

Admittedly not the same fee, but Kacper Kozlowski was in the Polish NT as a 17 year old, hyped up by all and sundry as Poland's next big thing. One of the senior Polish players (maybe Lewa) said he'd never known a teenager so mature on the pitch.

Two underwhelming loans out to the Eredivisie and now playing for a mid table club in Turkey.

Probably in absolute numbers we've had as many flops as successes. But that's the nature of the risk. With this Greek lad the stakes are higher than before.

When Evan finds his form again with Rutter, Enciso and Buonnotte feeding them we will be champions league winners. This is a simple FACT.
Enciso feeding him with a pass?
Whenever Enciso sees the goal he shoots.

p.s. Post #44 for the highlights reel of our future Greek God.

And that's a great example. Kozlowski's highlights reel was as impressive as any i've seen.

Another example Fabio Silva at Wolves.

I guess to me the message is that £40m on a 17 year old doesn't get you an instant star ... or probably it doesn't. It's just worth mentioning as we've had people on Gruda's case, Ferguson's case etc etc etc. What it probably does get you is flashes of brilliance, it get's you periods of real promise followed by probably a period where things don't go so well.

As a group of fans, especially online, we need to learn to take those patches of inconsistency as part of the price of the club's strategy

This is no time for realism. We are going to sign someone with all the best bits of Rooney and Owen.

OK, the article mentions a 4 year deal. That's not a lot for a player that age. To get a decent sale price you want to sell with at least 2 years left. That means one year integration, as a 17 year old. One year in the first team, then probably the sale for profit. Tight timelines!

Facundo and Enciso were both 18 when they joined and I believe both signed 4 year deals. Facundo has since extended his contract before his loan move to Leicester. Tzimas got a 5 and a half year deal at 19.

If this lad does sign I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 4 years with an option on his contract after that. This is a lot bigger investment so comes with a lot more risk. The club must be confident though if they are willing to throw £30m+ at someone so young. There will be a huge amount of pressure on the lad tho.

FWIW he turned 18 a week ago :)

He wouldn’t be able to join us until he turned 18 anyway as FIFA rules prevent players moving across national borders before their 18th birthday. (Obviously that isn’t the case if players have a right to work in other countries etc defined in law).

Sadly it's looking more and more like the club don't expect Evan to come good again. Tzimas - and now this lad. :(
Another way of looking at it, is that Charalampos and Tzimas are not going to be ready for the first team immediately and think that if Ferguson is going to have a good season at the Albion next season, it’ll be the perfect time to maximise his value next summer.

As much as the kid looks exciting its a huge risk, I wouldn't say I'm concern just a bit cautious, we all saw what happened to that lad at Wolves (Similar age and price)
