Beyond a joke...In fairness I had already given up on this one but surely that is the nail in the coffin for this one. I sometimes think Chelsea get involved in these deals just to stop us getting a player
To be fair, with the amount of money they end up paying the Albion for the players that end up going there, it's probably a good policy – they'll be saving a fortune!

It makes it all the more galling that Chelsea can completely ignore PSR through ‘creative accounting’ and the PL and PL clubs let them get away with it, and even encourage it.

When i was at secondary school, i thought the "i saw her first" was a fair and just method of avoiding these gazumping situations.

When Newcastle come in for a signing we've been working on, those raw emotions come straight back to the fore
When a Champions League club funded by the wealth of an oil-state comes in, it’s the equivalent of the year 11 bird you fancy getting tapped up by the upper 6th captain of the first XV who can grow a full beard and drives a moderately decent car.

Maybe we could sell, I don’t know, four staff from the Amex megastore to one of Tony Bloom’s companies for a fair fee, say about £200 million, then we too could sign such players.

Olympiacos is close to an agreement with Brighton for the sale of Babis Kostoulas. The English team's offer has reached unrealistic levels and appears to exceed 35 million euros and could reach 40+ with bonuses. Also, Brighton's offer includes a resale percentage of up to 20%, while at the moment there does not appear to be a player in the proposal who will follow the opposite path.

OK, the article mentions a 4 year deal. That's not a lot for a player that age. To get a decent sale price you want to sell with at least 2 years left. That means one year integration, as a 17 year old. One year in the first team, then probably the sale for profit. Tight timelines!
Or 2 years in the first team as an 18 year old and sign a new deal..

That would be great if we could get him to sign a new deal. But i'm sure his agent would counsel him against it. If the player has performed well, it's probably in his interests to run the deal down and see what CL clubs are coming in for him

If this story is true then this feels like a step change. This amount of cash for a 17 year old is mental, the fact Albion are potentially paying it is off the scale nuts.
The last time we changed approach this much was for a Dutch DJ. I hope this isn't a similar result.
It's mental, but it's the way the game is going.

The club must have an inkling that this lad is going to be Yamal / Doue good. But there are huge dangers. Progress at that age is far from linear. There are a lot of unknowns as to whether he adapts, settles etc. Clubs following this path will get badly burned sometimes. Probably we will at some point. But hopefully not here
