I know of many people who drink 50-100 units of alcohol a week and have done for decades with no ill health, infact the opposite.

No, highly intelligent professionals. Millions in this country.

So based on a pint being 2.84 units US Saying Millions in this country are drinking between 17-34 pints a week and at a nominal £3 a pint Millions in this country are spending £51-£102 per week or £2550- £5304 per annum
What absolute bollocks.

Why bollocks ? 3-5 pints (or equiv glasses of wine etc.) a day is hardly difficult.

You would consider drinking 3-5 pints a day, every day as normal behaviour for "millions of people in this country"

I certainly would'nt.

I know plenty of people that do and the times I've had to work in the city it's obviously normal behaviour any night after work.

It's not normal but it's extremely common. As Westdene said if you work in the City or a high stress, low impact, low safety environment (i.e media, publishing, IT but NOT train driver, air traffic control etc) then the pub after work is common and if you don't go it's because you want to see your kids before opening a bottle of wine. Actuaries are the worst I've found. Absolute pissheads the lot of them.

2 000 000 people in this country drink over 100 units a week.

From your previous comments I'm assuming you're teetotal. What makes you think you're qualified to assess what "normal" drinking behaviour is when you yourself are a completely abnormal part of the scale, you just happen to be at the other end of it

3-5 pints a day is hardly caning it. There are swathes of middle aged professionals in this country drinking shit loads every night. The middle aged are the biggest drinkers.

There's are always people who seem to be beating the odds but it's going to get you in the end if you carry on at that rate.

I would say 30 units a week with 2 AF days a week is the best plan.

So 7 Duvels is fine before dinner, yes ?

Duvel is a lunchtime livener, you should have moved on to something with a bit of bite by dinner time.

It may do but it may not. So many factors involved. Many people weigh up the odds and think ok this lifestyle according to the experts may take 5-10 years off my life but I like it and life is not all about how old you can live to.

True, but like all drugs you need more and more to get the same effect. I can ( just about ) remember the first time I drank a whole bottle of Red Wine, I was ratted. Now, in a social drinking situation, I can drink 2 - 3 bottles and still be quite together. So now I have cut back and feel a lot better for it and when I do drink, I get a buzz quicker and cheaper.

What like the Malheur 10 which comatosed you in Kulminator that night in Antwerp. At least we were still sober enough to climb the statues in the town square before being moved on by the local police.
Such behaviour tchh.

If it takes off the 5-10 years I'm going to be lying in a care home, alcohol free, with no visitors, being fed Smash by a 30 stone Fillipino nurse and pissing away my kids' inheritance to a "Care Company" then I'm all for it.

Indeed. Usually it's wine rather than beer, a few members of my family in the 35 - 50 age group think nothing of drinking a bottle of wine in an evening.

I don't drink at all in the week and most of my friends are the same. I tend to save up all my units for the weekend and really make them count

Really? So you are saying there are millions of highly intelligent people in this country who consume the equivalent of 5-10 bottles of wine a week, and they are all in splendid health.

Out of interest, where do you get your information from?

My cousin ran a company in Essex for years and had a pub right opposite his place of business. He was told by his doctor he had to stick to 20 units a week having caned it in there on many nights after work. So he changed his routine. From Saturday to Thursday he was teetotal. On Friday he closed the place at 4pm, went straight over to the pub and drank 10 pints with his mates.
