You two do remind me of an old French and Saunders sketch - wrong ism obviously, but satire equally as good

And you just know that some people who aren't too bright thought that what you were posting was for real :lolol:

But the process for which her citizenship was stripped does, for me, set quite a dangerous precedent. She was not a citizen of Bangladesh, but was ENTITLED to be one. By stripping her of her citizenship, we are in effect saying that there are degrees of British citizenship - and that those entitled to citizenship from somewhere else are not as British as those who aren't.

not at all. it says that as international law has it, you may strip a someone of citizenship if they have somewhere else to be a citizen. its a recent nicety to insist a person must hold a citizenship. if someone decides they dont wont to be a citizen, turn their back on a society and nation that would protect them, seems reasonable that the nation can accomodate them. you are as British as you want to be, if you want out there is an option.

Placed herself on the IS pedestal? She was 15 years old when she left.
She is a British Citizen and should be brought back to face the consequences of her actions.
I can’t help thinking she has become some sort of symbol for the far right of our society who rejoice in her being deprived of her nationality. That is what I find sickening and she is being used by the Home Secretary to further his ambitions in the Tory party to become it’s leader.

Let her return then wait for the rush to follow her, the legal fellows must be rubbing their hands in anticipation

Ok, let's not look at the horrors that she did (possibly still does) believe infidels deserve this, lets blank out the innocent lives lots to stupid religious bigotry. I think it is highly relevant, and if you don't that is your opinion, no better or more valid than mine....

The horrors of religious ideology should never be forgotten or airbrushed from our memories. They are sick and disgusting, everytime i see images like that I remember how sick, stupid and pointless it all is. Sometimes people are just bad, not all them can be understood or helped with therapy and, trying to understanding where they came from at the point in time.....

If you see that image at any age and think, yeah that's right, he deserved that, I can believe in a cause that will do that to another human. To me you ARE BEYOND HELP REASONING & UNDERSTANDING, oh they were young is a lame excuse, that they will cling to as a defence, that we give them to attempt to understand where they come from, when it is pointless....

just my thoughts, i am no expert, just a human, who could not buy into or understand why...

Well said

Maybe I've mellowed, but I am really uncomfortable about an impressionable 15 year old girl being treated in this way. Populism trumps everything these days.

They could really screw her by relenting and resettling her in Leeds. She’d soon be begging the UK authorities to return her to that Syrian camp.

I understand where you are coming from. Whilst I really wish that she could come back to the UK, I accept the collectivist and utilitarianism argument the government made in their appeal to the supreme court; if she was allowed back, it'd be a green light to the other 150 British nationals who have been banned on the grounds of national security and actually pose a real threat. Begum is not a national security threat in herself but will stand as an example to young Muslim women of what can happen if you let yourself be infected with the hatred of extremism.

Chatting with Mrs T about this today. She's much more liberal/green than me. She's largely comfortable with the situation.

My view is if there is mental illness, let's be kind. She has shown no remorse and her regret is wistful rather than bitter. Is that mental illness? Hmmm.

As a 15 year old she decided to go to join a group that were murdering defenceless people, to go to the middle east, to marry one of them (any one of them). Is that mental illness? Hmmm. And she went with two pals, too. Is that a contagion of mental illness? Hmmm.....

A very odd set of circumstances but this was a deliberate act, part of it being a declaration, not of war, but the intention to marry and have babies with someone whose only qualification was a determination to commit genocide on unbelievers (i.e., the British). Think: lord Haw Haw on stilts. Did we allow him to re-enter British Society and live out a peaceful life? Hmmm.....

Sorry, but this wet Trained Socialist has no sympathy, regardles of whether the Home Secretary is Priti Patel or not :shug:

We all made huge mistakes when we were younger. I just think that at 15 she made a catastrophic mistake. Should she
be penalised for the rest of her life? I'm not sure, but I can think of a lot worse people kicking around in society or in prison
with far, far too short a sentence.

I am so glad you were not running WW2, or any other security threat.
