Absolutely all this!!!

After getting pelters for daring to suggest that Mings and Southgate are possibly not in some sort of menage, it is pleasing that not all my witterings are dismissed as the preposterous dribble of a brainwrong dotard :lolol:

That would be breaking the Good Friday Agreement, of which both America & the EU are signatories.
Breaking International law, but this government don’t care.
The Good Friday Agreement was broken as soon as this protocol was signed. the Good Friday Agreement says that there should be no constitutional changes to Northern Ireland without the consent of the people. I can't see how this protocol doesn't qualify as a constitutional change. Introducing customs checks between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK is, I'm sure, contrary to the Good Friday agreement.

And I have never understood why it's a breach of a treaty to invoke one of its clauses. If clause 16 says that this protocol can be suspended in certain circumstances, and those circumstances arise so the treaty is suspended, how is that a breach of the law?

I think it depends on what the 'certain circumstances' are and the extent to which they could/should have been envisaged before signing. Taken to the extreme, an agreement could be made and then just altered for any purpose that suits the party that chooses to break it. In other words the 'agreement' become meaningless... especially as in this case everyone knew that it couldn't be sustained and one side (Johnson's) was acting in bad faith........

There hasn’t been any constitutional change to Northern Ireland. The Single Market and Customs Union are purely trading agreements.
Changing that will cause a constutional change.
The Good Friday Agreement was only possible because the UK andIreland were in the EU.
Northern Ireland voted overwhelmingly to remain.

That is one of the most confusing posts I have ever read on NSC. You clain that the Brexit arrangements don't breach the good Friday agreement (GFA) because they immediately breached them, and consequently this no longer matters. Er, yes, mate

I like the way you highlight your own spelling mistakes in capital letters. It makes it easier for the rest of us to spot them. Very thoughtful.

Brexit created an unsolvable problem for the GFA to remain in place. Project Fear in that regard = Project Reality. Whether the Irish Back Stop, Protocol, Green Lane Red Lane - there is no real way of solving this other than a fudge. So Johnson and his cronies just went, **** it, may as well make it a huge great fudge.

As a voter for Brexit, what did you imagine was going to happen with NI directly adjoining the EU via an open border secured by the GFA? I'm curious what people actually thought would happen. In 2016 it seemed obvious what has happened would happen.

Reminder to Brexiteers - more chaos at Dover is widely predicted this weekend.

Would you prefer the disruption to have its own thread, or do you want all comments about it, to be on the Brexit thread?

*cough* parody account *cough*

The real Trained Marxist hunter was escorted off the premises many weeks ago.

I am beginning to suspect that the man behind the parody is also the man behind the parody that is Crodo, but to say more may see me swimming with the fishes. Know what I mean ???

Ah, good point. I used to know a contributor on another forum, who used to sprinkle spelling mistakes in his comments, to mask his genuine illiteracy, which I had already helpfully pointed out. All good clean fun.

I must confess I have a second account but only use it when I log on from a computer that seems to prefer it when I log on from there. You will never guess the account :rave:

My ambition is to have a second account, put spelling mistakes in it, and waste people's time. Only then will I feel I have achieved the pinnacle of my powers. One day....

I wouldn't knock the parody accounts. They have been a source of much low comedy and necessry mockery.

My other account is a quirk of circumstances and is not used for any purpose other than to post on occasions when otherwise it would have been tricky.

Sorry, I was referring to others. I probably should have been clearer. I do tend to use shorthand after a glass of wine for medicinal purposes.

Here's to looking forward to tomorrow's chaos, and hoping the bottles of water are dished out to the remainers first. There's nothing better then a dried-up, shrivelled Brexiteer.
