Anybody who goes to the Ashoka is missing out big time. Next door, you have the Ganges, a FAR better restaurant! Although it's smaller than the Ashoka, it's always atleast half full and rammed on a Friday and Saturday.

Seriously, next time anyone on here thinks about going to the Ashoka, go to the Ganges and you wont be disappointed.

Curry here is dictated by Czech taste....ie people who have never really had curry before....

Have only one decent restaurant in the entire city

I remember going for a 'curry' in Prague in 1990 - it was like a bowl of water with lots of pepper in it.

The Ashoka is the best in B&H that I've been to but TBH, that's not saying very much. It wouldn't cut the mustard in Bradford, Birmingham, Tooting or Southall.

Ashoka in Hove is by far the best curry house I've been to anywhere in the country, and I've been to a lot of curry houses.

The Ganges next door is better IMHO.

I think I had the same sort of experience in a Finnish curry house.

Strangest one I went into was in Bangkok. We were nearing the end of our holiday and fancied a curry instead of Thai food so we popped into this one. It was only until we had placed our order that we fully appreciated the decor.

There were pictures of terrorists (in full dress with bazooka AK47s and suicuide belts), Yasser Arafat and slogans insulting George Bush and Dick Cheney.

It was a nice enough curry, but made very sure to say that we were from UK not USA. Even then I had an eye on the exit to make a swift getaway, just in case the kidnap squad arrived.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
One of the few things that make being an exile OK in these parts (Leeds) are the curries.
Takeaway price for a 'normal' type curry is about £4.50 and may include chapattis or rice or £6 for a special.

How much are the takeaways now in good old B&H. ?

I went there a few weeks ago. I had a huge (and when i say huge it interupted with the meals of the two people on either side of me) dosa which was yummy.

Service wasn't amazing though, but we were a very large party.

On other side of town to me, so won't be frequenting often but nice enough.

The best curry house in East Sussex by a country mile is The Junaki Restaurant in Heathfield high street. The chef part owns it so his food needs to be good, I've never had a bad meal there and they are really nice people.

The worst curry I ever had was in Dublin, I was told by the Bangladeshi's in the Junaki that is because they were probably Indians. Sounds strange I know but over 90% of Indian restaurants in the UK are actually run by Bangladeshi's many of whom don't get on with their neighbours (bit like the Scots and the English) and by all accounts make a shit Tikkai Masala

That's true.

I remember trying to order one on the way back from London to pick up for a meal and was told there was a two hour wait. This was midweek at about 6.30 in the evening ... WTF?
