If Potter has decided it's not going to work, it's more likely to be because of what he's seen on a spreadsheet.

Really don't think that Potter is that kind of manager. And as for Ali J, he had heaps of opportunities to impress and other than one or two rare moments of genius he really hasn't done it.

Watching Solly sat one of the frustrating things for me was how often he looked inside or backwards with his passing. Bernardo has always seemed more progressive to me? Football is about opinions though and if Potter doesn't rate him then so be it. He's the one who lives and dies by his choices I'm just some fat bloke in the stands

After his first few games at left back I thought he was going to be a very good player for us. He has all the physical attributes required. It is an odd one.

I have always liked him and was calling for him to get a game. Then he started against City or Liverpool (can’t remember which), completely lost his man from a corner and they scored. V poor. Even wing backs have to defend first.

Burn was one of our best players last season up until he got injured, I know he’s not a natural full back but we conceded a lot less goals down his side than Montoyas side, who was a natural full back.

Burn is a more reliable option than Bernardo and useful for the wide angled balls Ryan plays when we get pressed high up, but I do think if we are to make it into the top 10 in the next few years Burn is probably not a top 10 quality player. Good squad player.

I think Potter tried numerous personnel, tactics and formations all season. Almost everyone got a bit of a go in the side. Changes were made that I think other than Dunk and Ryan, suggested anyone could replace anyone in the side if the manager felt that was a better option. Don't think it was anything to do with Bernardo's face, just his feet.

He got his chance in January when Burn was out injured and while it was not all his fault, I dont think it was a coincidence the team conceded three goals against Bournemouth and West Ham during this spell, something that otherwise only happened to teams named "Manchester" or "Liverpool".

7 starts, 0 wins, 4 losses, 3 draws, 19 conceded goals, 7 scored.

I think its not a great loss and that people who wanted to bench Burn for him are pretty deluded.

That was my take, almost everyone in the squad GP inherited was given a genuine chance.

At the end of the day there wasnt much difference between between Bernardo and Schelotto, both looked good going forward but weren't the strongest at the back. I think it's funny how one got loads of grief on here and the other was in many people's first choice team.

It'll be ironic if we finally switch to wing backs this season after years of taking about it, just as we lose two players who were mainly suited for that position

You're exactly right and his distribution is also not good enough for the way Potter wants play. That's why Potter trusts Burn in that position ahead of him. Burn is very intelligent positionally which is why a lot of very good and quick wingers haven't been able to get the better of him last season. Although I do also think Burn is quicker than he's given credit for due to the sheer size of him.

I do think we need to sign a new specialist left back/left wing back but Burn has never let us down in that position and I would pick him ahead of Bernardo every time there for the way we play now.

I wouldn't have an issue with Bernardo going if he insists he wants to play every week. He'd be a very decent player to have in the squad but I just don't see him starting.

Good on the ball, but have never been convinced he knows how to defend. I'd have Solly ahead of him for the left wing back slot.

I think the opposite is true. I think he is a great defender (although set-pieces are an issue).

Bernardo strikes me a pretty typical left back. Very quick, tall, powerful and does not gamble with his positioning when we’re in possession and want to press the opposition. Does Potter want a typical left back though?

When Potter plays full backs, he wants something different to that. He wants a much better 1 touch/pass player and someone who knows when to gamble and stand on the penalty spot to give Maupay space like Burn does or someone who can dance around a player or two like Lamptey.

In short, like Duffy, Bernardo is a Hughton player. Perfectly capable in the Premier League but just not have the sort of skill set Potter needs.

Was also shocking at WH up against Antonio when we went from 2-0 up to 2-2 in a matter of minutes .... just was rattled by being put under pressure and couldn’t cope.

Still if he goes hope to God we definitely have some arrivals, squad is starting to look very thin.
