Can I suggest that on the first occasion that we find coverage of an Albion game is not featured all of us in West Sussex telephone or email to complain and that we go on doing so every day/week so until the situation changes.

Works for me

Will this affect Radio Sussex coverage of the games and commentaries.

No , there will still be annoying interruptions when they get an update in the matches affecting Crawley and Eastbourne Borough

This. It's about time Brighton fans had a good old campaign to get involved in.
And we rarely lose. :clap2:

That's a very good idea. Might need someone on here to point out each time it has happened as I imagine not all of us catch it every time (personally working shifts it's hit and miss if I see it at all).

i messaged the bbc south today Facebook page and received this response:

Following the South East digital tv switchover in March this year, people in Brighton & Hove and as far west as the River Adur are now served by BBC South East Today. The BBC made this decision so that people living in the Brighton area will see more stories about where they live. This means the vast majority of supporters of Brighton and Hove Albion will see more stories about their club.
BBC South Today will continue to run Brighton and Hove Albion football results on Saturday and mid-week bulletins as we are aware that there are supporters across Sussex. BBC South Today will also look to take material from BBC South East Today when there are major stories about the club, ensuring value for money for licence fee payers.

I got the same response and then asked them to clarify whether highlights would be shown to viewers in Worthing and to the west. They said that due to our perceived lack of support in this area of Sussex it wouldn't be necessary.

I'd suggest it's time to write to them and say you're from that area if that includes you!!

I suppose the thing to do is to reposition the tv aerial so that it points to the Brighton transmitter and picks up South East today.

I assume every bbc region has their own email addy?
If so when emailing we should all cc every other region and they'll start getting pissed off too.
Flood the bastards ha ha

same reply - doubt they will change, but keep at them!

Received an email today, having put a complaint through via their website:

----------------

Thanks for contacting us.

We’re of course very sorry to learn of your evident unhappiness with reports on the removal of coverage of Brighton and Hove Albion coverage in West Sussex, thus we hope to be able to provide a little more background to the situation.

BBC ‘South Today’ programmes will actually continue to run Brighton and Hove Albion football results on Saturdays and mid-week bulletins, as we’re aware that there are supporters across Sussex. BBC ‘South Today’ will also look to take material from BBC ‘South East Today’ when there are major stories about the club. This approach will ensure the best value for money for licence fee payers at a time when our limited resources are under intense pressure from ever-rising costs, meaning we’re required to make considerable year-on-year savings in every area of our operations.

The background to this is that, historically, analogue transmissions on the south coast overlapped considerably thus the BBC South region and the BBC South East region had somewhat blurred boundaries making it rather difficult to assign stories to one or the other; there was often the potential for duplication and this was deemed a waste of resources. The entire south coast has just one ITV region, but we wish to provide a more localised service to BBC viewers, as is the case elsewhere in the country too. In doing so, there will absolutely always have to be somewhere where an editorial line is drawn between the two - this isn't an exact science therefore we’ve to do our best within the limitations upon us.

Digital switchover means that the transmission areas are now much more defined and we’re aligning ourselves in terms of news coverage areas accordingly. We’re concentrating our Brighton coverage now in our BBC South East news programmes more than in the BBC South regional programmes.

We’re still, like all broadcasters, at the mercy of the vagaries of geography and topography in that terrestrial television signals may not have a clear and obvious boundary, thus it may still be the case that some people nearer one location may actually get signals through their rooftop aerial from another area. This is beyond our direct control, of course, but options are available in that satellite viewers (Freesat or via Sky) can choose their BBC region by selecting the appropriate channel number; an aerial specialist may be able to advise on re-setting a rooftop aerial to pick up a different transmitter; and cable and broadband customers should contact their supplier for advice.

As explained, the reality is that whilst we appreciate Brighton and Hove fans are widely spread, Brighton itself is in our South East region thus it’s appropriate that the bulk of coverage is on ‘South East Today’.

We hope this helps to clarify our approach and to reassure you that we do take this matter seriously and are doing our best to provide appropriate and best value for money coverage.

We’d like to assure you that we've registered your complaint on our audience log. This is an internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily and is available for viewing by all our staff. This includes all programme makers and presenters, along with our senior management. It ensures that your points, along with all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thanks again for contacting us.

Kind Regards

Gemma McAleer

Didn't say anything unexpected, but it would be interesting if the club has a breakdown of the geographical location of season ticket holders. Somehow I think there may be at least as many in West Sussex as East, although I've only gut instinct and the coastway train service on a match day as evidence ... :dunce:

BBC South have also tried to justify their decision not cover the Albion by stating as coverage is available from BBC SE it is not required to add to this.

Twice a year I have to spend a weekend in Glocestershire visiting the outlaws. News on Swindon Town is rightly covered on BBC Points West, so why the hell is it also covered on BBC South?

On the upside, the totty on BBC SE beats Sally Taylor anytime!
Don't agree, I would sooner see Sally Taylor than the Ken and Barbie show on SE. As we are on Virgin we cannot retune as you can on Sky.............I expect I will get lots of mail and calls from Sky now!!!!!

Why can't they stick the whole of the The Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation on South East then? I class Sussex (East & West) as the South East, not the South. Didn't anyone at BBC do geography at school?

It's a start - what would be better would be the list of post-codes for everyone registered to buy tickets.

Why are you bothering listing RH4 and RH5, they are both Dorking postcodes, and terrestrial TV there is from London.
