The one Aussie that has impressed me this Olympics is Ian Thorpe, he's been excellent on the box.

So its not all lost, with him and Shane Warne the Aussies are dominating the field of entertaining camp punditry.

Then again back in the day the Chinese couldn't swim to save themselves. Now look at em fly.

Jack Bobridge - "To walk away with a medal at the Olympic games is fantastic. We couldn't be any happier. A little bit disappointed we didn't get the gold"

So which is it then? Twat

Jeez Tyrone, give it a rest. You do come over as a particularly thin-skinned, humourless Aussie always quick to take offence and unable to take even the mildest joke. The bloke wrote a vaguely amusing article which, like a lot of humour, was funny at the time but now the joke's backfired. Fair play to him for sticking his head above the parapet when he must have had an inkling that it would backfire. And anyway surely he's a in a tiny, tiny minority at wanting to poke fun at the Brits given that (according to other posts by you on the subject) no one in Australia cares about cricket, swimming, rugby, athletics, sailing, cycling, rowing, gymnastics, basketball, judo, etc etc. And also that beating us means nothing to the average Aussie as you see the USA as your main sporting rivals anyway.

Just suck it up and move on.

So, is the UK really such a "small" nation? Area wise, yes. Population wise, no.

Well done Team GB on some excellent medals wins, but there is one thing worse than a bad loser. That's a bad winner.

I doubt it, we sent a pole vaulter who now seems afraid of heights!

Do they have Irish heritage?

You guys must be just loving these olympics

With so much English blood in your veins as a nation I always wonder that you never acquired the self-deprecating humour that has helped us to handle defeat so successfully over the years. Then again, perhaps it was the original breeding stock?

I'm just going by what I saw and what he said.

"We were saying if we have a bad start we need to crash to get a restart," Hindes said.

"I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride. I did it. So it was all planned, really."

Not suggesting it's cheating or anything of the sort, just a tad disappointing for a great sport.
I heard them being interviewed and he said something like he let himself fall when it was going wrong, but I ddn't know he said it as you've quoted - have you got a link to that?

Either way I can understand you being disappointed that was the way it went, but you say he was stupid because 'They didn't have to do something silly like that to achieve what they did' - let's be clear, no matter what he said, they didn't plan for him to fall before the start. He was all over the place by accident, and then he had no choice but to fall or lose.

Well done Team GB on some excellent medals wins, but there is one thing worse than a bad loser. That's a bad winner.
We're not being bad winners, we're not doing that well anyway, we're just having a laugh at the Aussies because of what their press said.

So if our population is about 5% of China, we are doing ok aren,t we ?

As if it works like that.

well i guess population is often a good indicator of how a country should perform in sport....but it fails to take into account things like funding/access to sports facilities etc.

india are hardly pulling off a massive medal HAUL are they? whereas we're outperforming loads of countries that have bigger populations
