HMS Queen Elizabeth disagrees. more to the point, the capbilities on Falklands would repel the Argentines.
Is that the aircraft carrier for which we couldn’t afford any planes? ;)

The thing about his dog is absolutely nuts if true. He 'takes advice' from the ghost of his dead dog who he used to feed champagne and he told him to run for president. He had the dog cloned and now holds medium sessions every morning to inform his decisions?!

Also the staggering decision of the ruling party to run the minister for economy as their presidential candidate, when the economy is running at 140% inflation. Talk about an own goal.

Of all the populist nutjobs who have managed to gain power in the last few years, Milei really seems to be the nuttiest.

Agreed - but how did things (140% inflation) get this bad in the first place?
because government promised to fix all their problems with copious spending the country cant afford. pretty common theme in South America, spend lots, print money, currency devalues and rampant inflation, default on loans.

Probably better advice than most politicians get.

I have selfish reasons for not wanting this wally anywhere near power and that is his plan to ditch the peso in favour of the us dollar.

Recently my son was very kind enough to give the ageing Mr and Mrs Shingle his air miles and we are going back packing around Argentina for 6 weeks in January and February and part of the reason of choosing Argentina was that they have a 'blue dollar' currency rate that although not legal is tolerated, so instead of getting the official rate of 400 to the pound you actually get 1100 or so on black market, making Argentina very affordable for such a long trip to the said Mr and Mrs Shingle.

apparently he's pragmatic, speaks about needing a dialogue, talk to the Falklanders. sounds like kicking it in the long grass. he knows they dont have the capability - they didnt before so how would they now with less airforce and navy. there's far more pressing issues at home.
but we also have less army, navy and airforce capability....

The word 'back' does not apply to the Falkland Islands. Argentina thinks it inherited the islands from Spain, which they didn't. The Republic was formed in 1881.
The Falkland Islands were named after Viscount Falkland.
The English captain John Strong made the first recorded landing in the Falklands, in 1690, and named the sound between the two main islands after Viscount Falkland, a British naval official. The name was later applied to the whole island group.
On 6 October 1832, an Argentine military garrison arrived in an attempt to establish sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, disregarding the British claim of 67 years prior. Less than three months later, on 2 January 1833, the Royal Navy evicted the military base with no loss of life.

I'm not too hot on the history but do know that Argentina wasn't even a country when they claimed it was inherited from the Spanish. Additionally, their claim based on proximity to the South American mainland is an absolute joke: they are 300 miles away from the closest point of Argentina.

It's a little closer than England is.
