I have no idea why his instruction wasn't:-

'dont move off the touchline and cross into the box'.

When he did that he was decent.
He certainly put in the best cross of the half.
He generated the most corners. (For what they're worth - not a lot)

But everything else was just the footballing equivalent of an exclamation mark.

The entire team plays 'crab football' to engineer the overlapping cross most of the time the best crosser is 10 yards in from either touchline.

Was the wrong substitute - should have been Mac Argie, Alzate, Gross, Molumby - ANYBODY else!

Gave the ball away, missed a sitter and got in everybody else's way. Unfortunately couldn't make a fourth substitution to get him off - but might as well have just taken him off anyway.
Time to send him back.

He's been here 2.5 years and had about 5 good moments. Time for Alexis and Swiss Andi to get their chance.

Mac Allister is not a right winger though and has never played in that position. We don't want players forced into positions they aren't comfortable in, that won't improve anything. I'd like to see him played behind a front 2 of Wellbeck and Maupay in a 3-4-1-2.

No pace, no goalscoring threat, has never looked comfortable in the Prem.

The problem today was that Ali J’s positioning was all over the place. He had to be told by Potter several times to stay out wide because he kept coming in centrally and just got in the way. It was far too congested in the middle when we needed to stretch the play. Bit bizarre considering we had two out and out wingers on the pitch and March, who yet again stood head and shoulders above both Trossard and Ali J.

Honestly he's just not up to it. The pile of evidence grows bigger and bigger every time he steps on the pitch. It's actually at the point now where anyone who can't see that is wilfully ignorant, imo.

Nice guy, great pro, but Christ, how on earth has he managed a career as a footballer?

Genuinely seems a good bloke and it would have been great for him to succeed but not premier league standard. He seems a few second behind what is going on

He isn't producing nearly enough when he's on the pitch.

HOWEVER, at least he bought a ticket for that last chance. And let's not forget that was a wicked cross from AJ that Connolly magically put over the bar. Considering we've got a team full of midfielders, none of whom can make anything close to a dangerous cross, it's pleasing that at least Ali J can whip in a ball from time to time!

Totally agree. On balance he doesn't produce enough but there is a spark of invention every so often that we get from very few others.

Agreed, his positioning when he came on was terrible. Either seemed to be under March or Lallana feet, or close to being offside so no one had confidence to pass to him.

Add him to the growing reject pile of expensive Brighton transfers.

All of which are between £15m and £20m.

It's almost as if, Bissouma aside, that entire transfer policy just isn't working.

Did well to hide for most of the 45 mins he was on.

One good cross and unfortunate with header. Remains not good enough - nothing has changed.

Be lovely to know what instructions GP gave him, as he either didn’t understand, Potter confused him or Potter had a bit of a nightmare tactically......
