The two combatants are very quiet. Must be like mr T in Rocky III, sweating in a basement doing pull ups on a pipe.

I'm starting to think that a NO HOLDS BARRED CAGE FIGHT might be more appropriate.

That way they can wear thigh high leather boots, leotards and masks.

IT's more difficult than I had time to give it once I had tried to pick through the nonsensical, poorly punctuated guff you had written first time round. I would be interested to learn from you how you feel that socialism has fundamentally changed over the last 30 years? I only ask because you reference a very dated view of what a Tory would seem to look like.

It really depends on how you define socialism. There are the classic text book theories and practices but this is not what I subscribe to. In some senses it has not changed. In some it has. The Labour Party is still a socialist party in their eyes and mine. It is a modern socialist party where capitalist ideas and practices can co-exist with ideas of looking after the little man and striking a balance between the economy, society and people. This is what I believe in and whilst they are not perfect I feel they are best placed to deliver the Britain which I want. And I get frustrated when people feel it is somehow contradictory to support wealth creation and also look after the little man; this is what I felt you were doing by commenting on Attila supporting a football club built on TB's dosh.

Anyway, I'm not trying to pick another fight. More trying to give you an idea of who I am and what I believe in.

Well, you've hit a nail on a head there, but not for me. I am fully aware of the contradictions but I love the Albion and always will - and I'll speak my mind about the things which make me uneasy to the custodians of the club for as long as they will listen to me (which I think got a fair old extension after the success of the real ale...) But my wife isn't renewing her season ticket: it is far too corporate for her now and she preferred Withdean (!) However, to be honest, she only started following the Albion when she met me 15 years ago - she's a Northwich lass and grew up watching the Vics and walking from one end of the ground to the other at half time. So, though I am sad, I do understand. And it means I'll be back in the North Stand next season for the first time since 1997. At last. I will be welling up....

Fair play. I think if we are all honest we'd all love to go back to the days of standing on a terrace, where the players were normal every day blokes who didn't earn more in a week than allot do in a year. Like it or not those days are long gone and football is big business. As noble as it may seem to bitch and moan about it all the time you are paying X pounds to go and watch your argument doesn't really hold allot of water.

Well, it'd be ironic if, having fought for the Albion in the worst of times, I turned my back on us now! Won't EVER do it. BRIGHTON TILL I DIE. I do think we can get safe standing back, and with the real ale, Dick's bar etc I have done all I can to try and keep that part of the Albion 'me/us' alive. But I totally understand the contradiction, which is why I try and do my bit for those elsewhere. I've recently done gigs for FC United and the Wrexham Supporters' Trust and (by visiting mother in law coincidence) was at the founding meeting of 1874 Northwich, the breakaway club formed by the fans now that the Vics are an Archered joke with no ground playing home games at Stafford Rangers.....I reckon they should have stayed and fought, but they voted to set up a new club. And it wasn't that long ago when the figure 8 was a bone of some contention in the Baine household. A very sad story.

Well, I'm off for one of my regular 20 mile bike rides this morning :) Maybe Lokki would be happier with this? I must say that when I first heard about it I thought 'if I was 20 years younger, I'd quite fancy having a go at that' :)

Atilla, what do you really think of Dick's Bar? Do you not think it is a bit, well, shit? It's like a sterile airport lounge, which is a great shame as it could have been so good.

...or if that is still too 'rough' how about JUST CHESS? Best of 3, winner pays £100 to REMF, you lot can bet on the outcome.
Come on, Lokki. 'Childish drivel' you said. It certainly was a surreal moment being quizzed about my tax arrangements by a BANKER :)

AS an aside from all this, just a thought. How about an NSC chess tournament for REMF? £20 in, trophies for winner and runner up..there must be some 'playas' on here. Internet pawn, anyone?

Agree totally. But since I had to fight tooth and nail to get a supporters' bar at all when certain people said 'you've got the concourses, it's not necessary' - beggars can't be choosers

It just seems a real shame, it could have been a real football type pub with photos of Albion scenes down the years adorning the walls along with scarves, banners, pennants, hats etc, maybe the broken crossbar from the York game and various things from the Goldstone. It should be the only place to drink before a home game, instead it's somewhere to only bother going to if the concourses are freezing cold after the game.

Apologies for the delay, I have not been able to log on before now and I have to log off shortly. I will respond properly on Monday as I am away all weekend. And for the record, I am not a banker.

But you are NAILS and STREET.

Right, I am sure everyone is bored of this now but I said I would respond so here I am. Apologies for the delay but a delightfully beer fuelled weekend in Munich and work commitments got in the way.

So.. atilla, this is as I am sure you are aware by now a message board, I can respond to your input on it without having to like/dislike you. You are probably not a bad bloke but I have no real opinion or interest in the matter, I just respond to what you post nothing more. Do I think the poetry you have posted on NSC is rubbish? Clearly. Do I find your posturing as some sort of socialist superhero ridiculous? Absolutely. Did I think you were out of order welshing (or is it welching? I’m never sure) on the AFC Wimbledon bet with the Laughing Bluebird? Very much so. Do I respect the hard work you have put into supporting the club over many years? Yes. Do you ever cross my mind when I am not on NSC? No.

As tempting as a charity boxing match is I’m afraid the arthritis in my hands (well in fact everywhere) make it a physical impossibility. And anyway wouldn’t it be dangerous for a man of your age? As for meeting you to “express my feelings”? I don’t feel the need if I’m honest. This is in no way due to me being a keyboard warrior or running scared (as people who know me on here will testify, although NAILS and STREET might be pushing the realms of believability Leighgull), it’s just that given the choice I’d rather spend the time having a beer with my mates.

Finally, to address your comments re Goldstone Ghosts I’m not sure what you expect me to say here. Rupertsflan has already posted very eloquently on this. Do I think that artistically it is a brilliant piece of work? No. It’s better than the effort you started this thread with and clearly the subject matter is very emotive for a specific audience but I can’t imagine that any serious independent reviewers are going to fawn over it. That said, it does what it says on the tin and it has become part of Albion culture so I’m not knocking it either. If people derive pleasure from it then great, fair play to you.

Sorry, I am aware that this post was not worth waiting for.
