you joining up then Bry?

Yes.... well, no. Not really.
Next month my watch are going to the RM Commando training base in Devon to spend a weekend being beasted by Royal Marines training officers, as a 'team building' exercise....

Someone I know who went on it last year said that by the end of the 1st day you feel like crawling up to the bloke on sentry duty at the gatehouse, borrowing his gun and shooting yourself in the head....:nono:

A week! Have fun. Remember that Royal likes nothing better than a fireman, as the memories of being stand-in firemen for the last strike are still fresh in many memories, especially as most of them were lurked for the duty in between roulements instead of taking leave.

Team building - watch your management try and cop out with injuries. The extreme team building tends to leave you with nothing but contempt for many of your superiors, for whom the phrase "all mouth and trousers" comes back to haunt them.

Got any ex-military in your watch? Make sure they let Royal know that they have prior experience in uniform....

That sounds like a serious bit of team building fella, I'm glad the railway does'nt get involved in that type of team building I dont think we'd last the day. Good luck with it Bry and I can see why your getting in practice for it those marine's are pretty tough blokes.

Luckily, none of my Watch are in the FBU, so we never went on strike, and turned out alongside soldiers at certain shouts. They were there, there were willing, but they were f***ing hopeless. [Working alongside a trained killer at a road traffic incident is an eye-opener.... "Oi, you! Out the car. NOW!"

No ex-military in my Watch, but when I joined my Training Officer was ex 2 Para and Special Forces. I still recall the day he threatened to rip my head off and use it as a football as I sweated on his boot....

What's so great about people training to kill people?

Defending the people who need defending. Our forces do not make pre-emptive strikes.
My Dad did 33 years in the Navy, my step-father was a Marine as was my half brother. I served in the Wrens.
