why do you bother trying to reason with him...you know he never sees the other point of view so you might as well whistle in the wind.

his criteria is the players in the squad you fool.

The pair of you have so much in common - fear of constructive debate - so talk to each other, not me.

OK, not wanting to droan on, but our 5 or so 'top earners' are on comparable money to the other clubs in L2 some even on comparable with the bottom end of the CCC, I know for a fact that no one has been asked to take a pay cut, so that leaves a 'top' salary available with the departure of Carole, it certainly wouldnt be a million miles away from £2500 a week all tolled if my information is correct which is not to be sniffed at.

Leon Knight was also never really replaced so I wonder where his 'top' salary went to. OK it doesnt help with 2 big earner's in Dodd and Oatway were out for a lot of the season, but now another 'top' salary has gone with Dodd, and what was 'top earner' Kerry Mayo's contribution to last season, and indeed what is McGhee's plans for him this season ?

Problem with McGhee logic is that he thinks that bringing in a load of young players on the combined salary of one player who has left is good business.

It isnt, its a false logic as since he has been here he has not been able to replace like for like and the Quality of the side as a whole is poor, whether that is because of his contacts or reputation I dont know.

All I say to anyone questioning the wage bill is look for other reasons why we cant attract players. As someone who has known a good few pro players down the years, dont even start on the bullshit about the facilities, because as long as the money is in the bank on a Friday, they AINT interested in anything else.

First off, thanks for the constructive answer.

OK, so the criteria you are using is wages, fair enough.

It's pretty interesting info that you have gleaned that we have (or had) 5 top earners on or near £2.5k p/w.

Your argument, then, is this puts us into the top 6 payers in League 1.

Again, I have no evidence to doubt your argument here, but what information do we have that there are 18 other League One clubs that pay less than this or have total wages budgets for the entire squad smaller than ours? Certainly it would be an interesting question to ask Dick Knight at some of the upcoming forums - he may well back up you say about our relatively good spending power, I hope someone asks him.

Secondly, the point you make that McGhee's strategy is flawed because he is not replacing one £2.5k player with another similar good-paid player, but a lot of cheap youth. Is that the case? McGhee gave an interview a couple of weeks ago where he said that he was after one central, main target, a striker - and that by and large the rest of the squad could make do. We seem to have already rejected Mendy and Biakolo - maybe we are setting our sights higher on better quality players?

And just a minor point, you said no one was asked to take a pay cut, yet several sources have mentioned drops in salary due to relegation - Guy Butters said in the Argus I think that it wasn't as bad, percentage wise, as the Southampton situation of the previous season but there were still cuts for Albion players.

dichio is on his way to Plymouth

Sensible move for him. I guess Plymouth wouldn't want GNW now.

Do we though? Gone amazingly quiet on that front.

No thank god, because we don't have the players to play such an adventurous style, we must be more balanced and pragamatic than that - and look particularly at how we got the play-offs last time with a very strong defensive spine and a forward line that could put away chances.
Balanced and pragmatic - yes. I wasn't suggesting a total football approach. More a solid defence and a team set out to pass the ball through midfield rather than playing long balls (as I believe we would if Dichio were to sign, although I wouldn't be at all surprised if he went to Holloway's hoofers) and attack with pace and guile.

For me the best option we've been linked with remains Noel-Williams, dodgy knees and all. But as you say, it has gone quiet on that front at the moment. Plymouth's interest in him ended the moment Stoke came in for Pulis. He may yet end up returning there, with Bangoura AWOL.

My information is that no one on a current running contract was asked to take a pay cut. It may not be correct, but its normally a fairly reliable source.

To be fair you are talking about much higher figures at Soton than the ones at the Albion.

On GNW I think the chance to sign him has gone - if he was the one Mcghee wanted he should have made an early move - not saying he didnt - but like you said there has been no more news on him, Which could be a blessing.

They all have a wage cut written into their contracts. I read this somewhere and it was a quote from DK.

constructive debate, is entering into a discussion , listening to everyone's point of view and coming to a mutually acceptable agreement or agreeing that the opposite view may not be yours, but is no less valid than yours.

That is something you are palpably not capable of doing.

Its either arrogance or plain uneducated stupidity. I think people on here have made up their minds a long time ago what category you fall into
