Possibly but how do we know what the price would now be given the required investment over the years if the utilities hadn't been privatised ?
Hard one to call really.
And yet supermarkets will make more than that out of most people every month. When you go out for a meal ( and I know you like doing that :p ) the chef will be aiming for 85% GP. I'm really not sure that energy firms making that much money is excessive compared to profits of other companies most...

@DavidinSouthampton - sorry forgot to mention the stupid Ofsted scores in my post. If @pork pie is really that stupid to judge schools on Ofsted scores then I pity any children he has !
Good grief - you suggest teachers have a political agenda and shouldn't be allowed to teach based on it and then suggest allowing parents to educate their children about history based on their political agenda.
I believe the holocaust ( and everything about the second world war ) should be...
Agree completely with your post ( especially the bit underlined ! )
With regards the history bit - it somewhat depends on how you teach it - here's what Baker suggests leaving out which I totally disagree with ! Stop teaching about the holocaust so that children see Germany in a better light...
I'd always given you the benefit of the doubt but this diatribe is unbelievable !
Agreed but where do those guidelines and standards stop ? For example, I'm a strong believer that we should teach all children about the first and second world wars ( and the causes leading up to them ) to try...
Agreed but I'm not sure what the answer is - do we allow teachers / schools / LEAs teach what they want to teach or ensure that all school children get taught the same thing via a centralised curriculum that's open to political manipulation ?
Out of interest, does this mean you think anyone who supported Saville's charity work was involved in his crimes or at least condoned them ? Or is it just some pathetic politic rant ?
Agreed - inappropriate selection of words !
A little different from ALBION28 's post ! Baker, her education secretary, wanted to ban teaching about Nazis in history as well but it's hardly the banning of teaching history.
Well a search of Google doesn't back up your statement - she tried to ban teaching and promotion about homosexuality ( incorrectly in my mind ) but no mention of history being banned.
You might of been a teacher BUT when she was elected I was at school and in education until 1988 - every year during that time I studied ...... History !
OK, it might have been a bad example as I compared paying for a service to paying for a product. Let's take a service you buy ( other than one from a council ) - are you charged based on your property value no - when a plumber comes to fix something he doesn't charge you based on your property...
Given it costs no more to collect the rubbish from a £1m house than say a £150k one why should everyone not pay the same for the same service ? When I go into Tescos they don't charge me based on my income or house value.
That said Council Tax is equally unfair - house value doesn't necessarily...
