Why would the chairman contrive to publically discredit the man he has offered the number 2 role to ? He wants Wilkins to stay at the club, as does Adams.
Did it bollocks.
It was just a bitter parting-shot by a player who got the arse because he'd been released at the end of his contract. It didn't sully Wilkins's name in the slightest - this is when the majority of contracts are sorted one way of the other. The writing was on the wall for Reid -...
If we were into June / July or getting close to pre-season training then this would be a problem. As it stands, I reckon we'll know before the end of the week whether Wilkins gives Knight his signature or his finger.
I would hope not. Although he's only been a manager in his own right for eighteen months or so, therefore I don't think he's just going to walk into a managers job elsewhere. He was still building his reputation here, and would be seen as a bit of a risky appointment elsewhere methinks.
I'm BORED with it already though. Along with everyone else I was getting totally wrapped up in the rights and wrongs of it all, the politics, the conspiracy theories etc etc. But it strikes me now that I really don't give a toss. A ruthless decision was made, Adams is back, he was bloody...
Look, we're all disappearing up our own arses over this.
The bottom line is very simple - despite the Albion having a reasonable season, the board believe that Micky Adams is a better manager than Dean Wilkins, and have therefore acted accordingly. Whether this turns out to be the RIGHT...
Well not a lot went wrong between February and the end of the season to warrant Wilkins getting the spanish fiddler, so short of actually making the playoffs and then going up, I guess it seems Deano's number was up anyway. If you're out of favour with the chairman, you're not going to survive...
Hmmm. So amongst others, Harty and Ed knew for a fact that Wilkins was for the chop months before Wilkins himself did.
Thats pretty shoddy all round I think.
