I really loved this post. So genuine. It really moved me. Thanks for taking the time to write it. I agree, there was something surreal about wandering round the Parthenon and chatting to a couple of Albion fans sitting on an ancient lump of marble.
But I'm left wondering what sort of offence...
It's certainly not been stated that strongly in any of the club communications. Unless the away end is physically partitioned off I'm not sure how that works.
Well he had his meter running but I should probably have asked in advance if it was a set fee. That said, I decided to not have a row about it as he’d entertained us pretty well.
I noticed that too. I’m certain this is for the convenience of the police rather than the convenience of the fans. I’m determined to make my own way to the stadium. I really can’t see me being turned away because I didn’t arrive by bus! After the game is another matter. I may not have much...
The taxi driver from the airport Sunday evening charged 57€ which I'm certain was pricey but he was such good company, explaining why Albion should stuff AEK (he was a Panathanaikos fan) plus the fact we were stuck in a huge traffic jam for nearly 30 mins, meant I didn't begrudge it. We also...
We're staying near the Acropolis. According to Tripadvisor, taxi should be around 45 Euro. We've not booked one yet but will probably do so. It sounds like quite a lot, yes, but we will have suitcases, so prefer to do without the hassle of dragging them round the Metro, cobbled streets etc...
You'll be fine on the way there -- just get the Metro together. The return journey is anyone's guess at the moment. I'm hoping they are reasonable and allow people to choose how they get away. OTOH if the result upsets the locals and they get hostile, I suppose I may just be glad of the bus!
I've seen nothing to the contrary. Not sure how they would police this anyway. If you turn up at the stadium an hour before KO, are they going to insist you return to the city centre to get the bus? No. I'm more bothered about post-match. I won't be happy if they force me to get on a bus to go...
You never know how individuals will react but if you ask nicely, and especially if your son is a 'boy' rather than a strapping 45-year old, I’m sure you’ll be fine. Good luck.
I'm also wondering if we can just get the subway there. Based on where our hotel is, I'd prefer to make my own way though we may not have much choice on the return journey, other than being held back and forced to get on a bus to take me somewhere I don’t want to go.
Also, 3:30-4pm at the bus...
I was one of the lucky few who bought at 2pm Monday so it was therefore open to Tier 3 people, if only for a minute or so.
If your eligibility date was, say, Wednesday, I’d have thought you’d be ok to buy on Thursday regardless of current availability.
Don't give up yet. Some Ajax tickets went back on sale today, and apparently the deadline for returns was yesterday. So keep an eye open for the AEK returns date and keep checking after that for tix going back on sale. Good luck.
I’ve mentioned this before but if anyone has the ability to take extra holiday / time off domestic duties, it’s actually cheaper to spend longer in Athens than to just take a short break. Last time I looked, you can get an EasyJet flight quite cheaply earlier in that week. We’ve booked an...
