The odd couple of grand a week is £104k a year, or more than £200k over the course of a two-year contract.
I think any of our current squad would DEFINITELY leave for that sort of increase.
It is not that he things he deserves more. It is that he is being OFFERED more. You can't blame him for pushing for more cash to stay here can you, honestly?
It seems Palace have set the bar here, not Glenn.
I trust Gus to replace him. But for people saying they are not bothered that we are heading into a new season having lost our top scorer and one of top three players is ridiculous.
Will we recover? Probably. Is it still a blow? Certainly.
Murray does not suddenly become shit because we don't...
Splash cash on signing a new centre forward to replace Murray = less to go round on the other EIGHT players Poyet has said he wants to sign.
Not just as simple as Murray out, like for like in.
Because they are not being offered that amount elsewhere.
Does anyone honestly think if Palace came in and said: "Hi Adam El Abd, Brighton are paying you £3,000 a week (a guess), we will offer you £10,000" that he would not go or at the very least ask Brighton to match the offer?
What people are also not taking into account is at the end of the season Poyet said he needed 7 new players. He has already added an extra centre back to that list. Now we need an extra top class centre forward.
His budget is getting stretched by at least two decent players. Yes, he will save...
Does not explain the season he reached double figures when we were crap and neither of those two played for us...
And maybe, just maybe, they got good assists BECAUSE Glenn was on the end to finish the moves off...
Anyone who thinks Poyet's job in building a squad for next season is anything...
I am not saying his house is going to get smashed up. Of course it won't. Just saying he has come in for more than his deserved share of stick in recent seasons from our fans and that he probably does not want to have to walk round his adopted home town wondering whether he will get abuse.
Possibly the most sensible thing a Palace fan has ever said.
If Murray is honestly having to consider things like that then is it any wonder he isn't accepted less money to stay at our club?
Remember the abuse he got back at Brentford for having the cheek to want to keep his girlfriend happy...
We are already offering Murray an improved deal which, I imagine, would make him our highest paid player. That would suggest Poyet DOES think he is worth being our highest paid player - just not as highlighly paid as Palace.
It depends. If nobody was offering him more I imagine he would be happy with our offer. The fact is though, that they are, in which case he is surely well within his rights to ask for the same here?
