    Roy Jennings

Roy played in the first game that I saw at the Goldstone: a 1-1 draw on September 21st 1963 against Chesterfield. His last game for the Albion was, I think, against Bradford Park Avenue in January 1964.

    Sir Bobby Charlton

Bobby Charlton was asked if the 1966 side would have beaten Iceland - Yes 1-0 - Only 1-0? - Be fair, most of us are in our 70's

    Medical Emergency - Eastbound Platform

The emergency services dealt with the incident immaculately -- not least by caring for the person's wheelchair-bound friend who was (naturally) deeply distressed. One police officer in particular knelt down by the person's friend, held his hand, and comforted him. It was deeply moving, and a...

[Albion] A new song for Nathan

To the tune of Casey Jones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig3GcDBjQN4 "Nathan Jones Steamin' and a-rollin' Nathan Jones You never have to guess, When you hear the tooting of the whistle It's Nathan at the throttle of the Amex Express" Apologies, folks: too much cream sherry in the old...

    Andy Naylor on Twitter

Andy Naylor The criticism (which, in fact, amounts to nothing more than abuse) of Andy Naylor puzzles me. I've read local newspaper reporters' coverage of football on any number of clubs in England during my fifty years of involvement in professional football, and would place Naylor in the top...

Level of support in outlying areas of Sussex in terms of travelling to the Amex

STH from north-west Oxfordshire. A long way home after a defeat, but a happy journey home after victory! First Albion game was against Chesterfield in 1963 (1-1, with a goal from Roy Jennings, in case you were wondering).:albion2:

    Andy Naylor (this is fixtures)

I don't know Andy Naylor, but think his tweets supportive, analytical, and to the point. Given how tough it is for any printed newspaper to survive nowadays, I'd say we in Sussex are fortunate to have a local paper that offers coverage of the Albion in the depth that Andy and Brian Owen provide...

How many years have you supported BHAFC ?

[FONT="Book Antiqua"]48 years, and counting. First game that I watched at the Goldstone was the 1-1 draw against Chesterfield on 21st September 1963. Albion's goal was scored by Johnny Goodchild (who was that season's top scorer with fifteen in League and FA Cup). Stood in the East Terraces...

    FAO Shoreham Moonraker

I think Shoreham Moonraker has it about right. Albion marginally deserved to win, and Ankergren was fortunate to stay on the pitch. El Abd took some big risks with his tackling, too. I disagree only in that , being in line with play, I didn't see Sparrow's second goal as being offside...

Vote For Brighton's All Time Greatest Player

Barry Rees would be my choice -- astonishing energy and footballing intelligence.

Just who was your childhood Albion hero?

Freddie Goodwin is spot on: Lawrenson played at no. 10 against Notts Forest in November 1979, and kept that number (and the mid-field position which went with it) for each of the next twenty-nine games, concluding with the 0-0 draw against Everton at the Goldstone. My favourite player? Probably...

Most memorable - BRISTOL ROVERS (h)

Brighton 3 - 2 Bristol Rovers, November 19, 1966 I hesitate to add to this thread, since one W. Tranter wore the no. 5 shirt on the day but for my money the victory over Bristol Rovers on November 19, 1966, was a good game in which to be involved. We were 0-1 down at half-time, and then went...

Who do you rate as the quickest and slowest Albion players that you have seen?

The slowest player I ever saw was my old mate from the mid-sixties -- Derek Leck.

    Brian Tawse

It's this sort of post that makes me realize how old I am because I remember Brian well. Brian Tawse arrived in Brighton in (if I remember correctly) December 1965. He made twenty-two League appearances in that undistinguished season, and scored six League goals; remarkably, he made the same...

    Alex Dawson & Freddie Goodwin

Top post from Elderly William.:clap2::yahoo: Dawson made a huge impact in the 1968-69 season, with 17 League goals in 23 appearances. Not bad for someone who came here from Bury on a £9,000 transfer fee. I didn't play alongside Alex, having left for Baltimore at the end of the previous season.
