Unfortunately they are coming up as Champions of League One . I would respectfully suggest that their Summer open top bus is kept as they may need to park it across their goal in the Championship.

Look on the bright side. With the championship being an absolute basket case of unsustainable spending this could be the chance for Pompey to pull ahead of Palace by entering a record breaking third administration. They've been tied on 2 for long enough.

I'll be honest, its properly pissed on my cornflakes that they're finally leaving the noddy leagues. Scum club, scum fans, shit ground situated in an absolute ASBO-festooned rancid khazi of a town. I hope they get absolutely smashed to shit Rotherham-style next season, and straight away return to their rightful levels following a thoroughly miserable season including (ideally) a crippling points deduction that leaves them miles adrift months before they even get going.

That would be gravy.

The first time I encountered Pompey was in 1969 in our league cup run.
What a rum do that was inside and outside the ground. I was only 8 but still remember the fighting…. Ruffians.

I quite like Pompey, always found them to be a nice club with the best fans.
The wife of a friend is a Pompey ST holder & goes to loads of away games as well. She is one of the loveliest, kind, funniest people I know. On the other hand, I witnessed at first hand 2 burly docker-types try to take the Hammersmith End by themselves at a game in the late 70s / early 80s and from what I've heard that mentality persists among a high proportion of their following.

Fingers crossed they go straight back down next season where they belong.

Meanwhile, let's just hope Peterborough somehow pip Derby to the other auto spot (and to a lesser extent, Bolton).
Why does any club "belong" in League 1 or anywhere else? If Portsmouth win the League 1 title they deserve their promotion to the Championship. I'm happy to see them make progress. Another club who suffered through terrible ownership. If Southampton don't get promoted, it will be good to see the rivalry with Pompey revived. I'd like to see them both, and Bournemouth and Albion, in the same division to have a bit more south coast rivalry. I've no interest in Palace as rivals even if they're marginally closer. The coast thing makes for a better rivalry than two coaches having a row in the 1970s IMO.

Always a little tentative posting on here as an AFCB fan - not much love for us (not that I expected much LOL)...

But rivalry wise - ideally if the Bmth area was geographically where Eastbourne or Newhaven is, that would have been a great rivalry with Brighton. Then Palace would have their natural rivalry with Charlton.

Instead we're stuck out on a limb with no rivals., which some might say is a good thing?

Agree BHA, Pompey, Stains & AFCB all in the PL would be interesting. I think Pompey fans have calmed a bit. Southsea is getting pretty middle class these days, know 2 or 3 families there, all support Pompey, all sound.

You say no rival but some of your support is desperate for a rivalry with us

Indeed, and we do have a rivalry of sorts with them, but ultimately we are too far apart geographically. Plus of course they are a noddy outfit.

I always thought Bournemouth and Reading were a rivalry waiting to happen. Reading are ignored by Swindon and Oxford (and frankly are a bigger club than both these days anyway) and Bournemouth are considered a joke by nearby Southampton. Reading and Bournemouth did have a spat 25 years ago as I recall so I'm sure there's no love lost there anyway.

My grandad supported them (from his days in the Navy) so got a bit of a soft spot for them TBH, plus not old enough to remember the clearly fraught meetings in the past that appear to have scarred many here
