Connolly deserved to be subbed - he was ineffective - but he was only partly responsible for his ineffectiveness.
After the Portugal game pundits in Ireland were calling for Kenny to be given an extended contract - despite the fact that in 15 games Kenny's team has won one game, a friendly against Andorra and has failed to beat Azerbijan and Qatar and lost to the likes of Finland (twice), and Luxembourg (at home)..
Ireland have good players - but Kenny is not a good manager - he is completely out of his depth. Ireland played very well against Portugal, but Kenny goes and changes the team and messes everything up. Coleman and Doherty as the two wing-backs were very effective against Portugal, when Omobamidele came on for O'Shea he played well, repeatedly keeping Ronaldo in check, Against Azerbijan Kenny puts Coleman in as a centre-back (where he has been terrible when he has previously played there) moved Doherty to right wing-back and both Coleman and Doherty kept getting in one another's way the entire night. He brought in McClean as left wing-back - a player who only ever had pace going for him, but who has lost that pace and is playing in League One. If he needed a left wing-back he actually had an effective one on the bench, Ryan Manning. Kenny said Ireland needed to pass the ball better - so he brought in a played totally lacking in confidence who has had little game time in Molumby and left the best passer of the ball in the Irish squad, Conor Hourihane, sitting on the bench. And he played Parrott out of position - Parrott and Idah kept trying to run into the same positions - Parrott has been playing deeper at club level and should have been deeper last night. As the team got desperate players just piled forward crowding the space, with no running off the ball and no space to pass through - and Kenny did nothing to correct it. And Ireland have consistently been very poor defensively since Kenny took over - making basic mistakes that have led to goals - and Kenny does not know how to correct this, because he hasn't done so in 15 games despite it being obvious since his first game in charge.
Connolly was ineffective and the comparison in how Connolly has failed to develop in the past two years alongside the consistent progress that Adam Idah has made in the same time is stark. People scoffed at me three years ago when I said that Connolly was down the pecking order with the Irish U-21s - and I specifically named Parrott and Idah as being better than him - Parrott has had injuries and has struggled for consistency, but Parrott is two years younger than Connolly, has been playing well at Peterborough and will end up a much better player. Adam Idah is also younger than Connolly and is a much better player than Connolly at this stage. He was deservedly man of the match last night.
Molumby is so lacking in confidence - pedestrian in the first half and after the break he was largely running around like a headless chicken and was deservedly subbed - in fact he should have been off at half time. He needs to play a lot of games - but unless he gets his head right it could be difficult for him to break into the WBA team.
Duffy was Duffy - scored with a good header - solid in defence - but still can't pass the ball - and he played Ireland into trouble several times last night by giving the ball away.
Lastly - I am a big fan of Gavin Bazunu - I think he is going to be great goalkeeper and likely will be Man City's goalie in the future - and despite the saves he has made in the last two games (and he couldn't do anything about any of the goals) - at the moment Caoimhin Kelleher is a better goalkeeper and I would start Kelleher. He is so consistent and while Bazunu is playing in League One with Portsmouth, Kelleher is PL standard and getting better. Liverpool are paying him a lot of money to be the back-up to Allison - I still don't know why another PL team hasn't snapped him up because he is better than half the PL goalies at the moment.

All I said is he adds more to NSC (in my opinion) than Ethelwulf (that’s a low bar), not that I agree with everything he says.
I find his insight into pre-Albion Potter interesting and given that football for me is viewed through an Albion-tinted lense, I like to read his views on it from a different perspective.
I think NSC is a better, more interesting place thanks to the likes of him (and even the less antagonistic Palace fans) and I’d much prefer them to hang around than the constantly negative, needy Albion fans who stink the place out.

And in the examples you quote, I genuinely couldn’t give a toss about his hair and I’m amazed how often this comes up about players like him and Pogba, it’s bizarre. Bissouma’s is blue at the moment by the way.
And Love Island? As far as I am aware he didn’t go on the show? It’s hardly his fault an aquaintance of his went on the show.
And with regard to fights, yes it’s not good but how many 20/21 year olds in this country get involved in fights voluntary and involuntary. And unfortunately Premier League footballers are a target so yes he does need to learn to deal with this sort of thing better but he’s not the first young footballer to have had these issues and he won’t be the last. IMO he needs assistance to deal with it in a more intelligent way, not to be constantly criticised and cast out.
Critique his performance on the pitch, and to be honest I’m one of those who thought he should have gone on loan last or this season, but the constant abuse he’s taking about his personality and off field life has gone way too far.

I hope Aaron scores a lot of goals for us and he gets more subtle when "buying" fouls. I also hope he turns out to be a good human being but as long as he isn't evil I will just shrug when I hear stories about him being a bit of a knob. It isn't ideal but he is still growing up.

The fact remains that I put regular money into the football club. Less than Tony but more than you. A lot more than you.
No if I'm voluntarily paying for something and I dont like what I pay for, I stop paying. The option is there for you as well.
Last year a certain Tony Bloom paid more than £1m a week for you to have a decent football team to watch and what he got from you was your annual "this club is going nowhere!" thread. Hardly quid pro quo either but you dont hear him moan.
Football is still just about the working man's game. What people spend watching the Albion and buying the club shop tat means sacrificing other things from the budget in the case of the vast majority of fans.
Not you though. You get to sneer for free.
