I ****ing love Ben White now. Kid seems like such a nice guy. Hasn't ever played up the 'Leeds made me' tag.
Absolutely deserves all the success he is likely to get.

White stated at a presser the other day that his progression to England call up has been 10 years in the making, and not just 1 season at Leeds. The Leeds fans are NOT happy to have had their delusion shattered by the man himself - comments are LOL:

I had the misfortune of hearing Chris Waddle talk about White on the Radio 5 Euro's preview podcast. Now I loved Waddle as a player but he really does talk shite.

According to him, White is a rookie who played mainly as a midfielder at Leeds, has only made one sub appearance for England and England should play a back 4 with Stones and Kyle Walker at centre back. :ffsparr:

Chris Waffle is a dunce isn't he. Is he related to Chris Sutton per chance? Maybe it's a Chris thing.

The point is fans of other clubs whole heartedly agree with half of your assessment.
As for the other half they're wearing their own rosy specs, esp the Burnley fans (those that aren't booing knees).

My go to is Football Weekly, yesterday's discussion was how weak the is defence?
Mings and Cody out of form, Maguire injured.
Change formation, untried 3 at the back, make shift Shaw in the 3 etc.

It being pre tournament, it wasn't Southgate's fault.
Despite the fact he selected out of form (were they ever in form) and injured players.

"No Ben White has to start, Southgate got his first selection wrong and can count himself lucky he was able to make the right change". Noice.

Haven’t listened to yesterday’s episode yet but last week all 4 presenters/pundits had White as a starter.

The beatification of Bielsa is very odd. The bloke is obviously a decent manager who has developed a system that is both effective and influential. However, his reputation is not particularly about developing players except to work in his own system. Add to this the fact that a lot of Leeds fans were raving about White from the first game he ever played for them and its pretty obvious that the 'nothing without Bielsa' narrative is a delusion that is all about Leeds fans' obsession with their current manager and nothing to do with Ben White.

Let's say White really has impressed the England set up so much that Southgate feels he merits consideration. Do you see Southgate going against the "tried and tested" dinosaur types who would rather play centre backs simply because they play at bigger clubs?

No, me neither.

Ben White would have more of a chance of being a star at this tournament if only we had a decent progressive manager. But we have Gareth Southgate. Nice enough bloke, but nowhere near good enough I'm afraid.

Like Mica Richards selecting Mings in his starting XI because of his left foot? The fact that he ain't very good sort of got brushed under the carpet so as to speak....Pundits are full of it aren't they?
My heart sank when I saw his team, yet that is the sort of thing we can expect to see. Mings is ordinary. He's not even good enough to make our back four, yet because he plays for Aston Villa these lazy "experts" just assume he's the man.

And on a related note, the bit where Gary Lineker asked Richards to talk about North Macedonia, "as you know so much about them".
What BANTZ. Because heaven forbid that a presumably well-paid expert should bother researching the players at outsider nations before coming on national television to talk about the tournament.

Which translates to: he doesn’t play for Manchester City/United/Liverpool/Chelsea so I don’t have a clue who he is, I’ll just make something up on the hoof, no one will notice.

Happens EVERY tournament. Same old jokes.

Last time it was Linekar and Shearer sniggering about not knowing anything about the Albania squad.

Embarrassing.

This. Disgraceful, really.

In general, ex-footballers are shit pundits, and nobody would miss any one of them, if they ****ed off the whole lot and replaced them with decent football journalists - Graham Hunter, Julien Laurent, Raphael Honigstein, Sid Lowe, James Horncastle and the like.

I was watching yesterday and though 'whose that cockney wanker doing the wing man job? He's really knowledgable and balanced.' Turns out it was Terry Gibson  I was very impressed.

Exactly, Ben only arrived on loan at Leeds a week or so before the start of the season after 7 years of Albion development - not only did he start their first game (after much Leeds bleating about who the f*** is Ben White and why are we signing Brighton’s unwanted players on loan/he’s not fit to lace Pontus Janssens boots etc) ) he got man of the match!
But no, it must be Bielsa’s incredible coaching that made White the player he is in 7 days!

I remember watching the 2014 WC coverage with my Greek wife. The amount of laughter Ian Wright got for stuttering "Papa... papa.... errrr the big number 5. I can't say their names!!!" was ****ing embarrassing.

Always rated Henry Winter. Even worth buying The Torygraph for. He's at The Times now.

I agree about pundits. Same in cricket. Ian Botham or CMJ (RIP) ? I think we know the answer.

There's to many opinions now anyway. I don't recall Peter Jones or Bryon Butler being so full of them.

White's name got rather lost in the conversation regarding who can play what formation.
Then Mark Langdon gave the quote I posted and that was the end of that!
