Think the other result involved Walsall and Sunderland. I was at Chester - Brighton all crammed into the covered bit next to their fans leaving the terrace behind the goal empty. Went by coach and there were loads at Toddington when that result came through there was a big cheer and then we all had a game of football in the half empty lorry park.

My first season going away, I'd managed to just about find the train fare for Gillingham, Aldershot and Brentford but cash said it was the Costa Express for Chester.
Was that the season it properly kicked off at Aldershot? I remember getting of the train about 2ish turned into the road and it was like a scene out of the Wild West. My mate got took down by an OB dog for no apparent reason on the way to ground, big bite on his lower leg. It seemed funny at the time :) Final score was 4-0 or 4-1 to Albion.

I was born in 88 so only have 2 years experience of the 80's  But you have just named English, Scottish, French, Spanish and several Italian brands. Pretty diverse in my book? As the years have passed you can add countless other brands from around the world and influences from all manner of sports, film and music.

I can't speak for everyone who follows the culture - but for me personally not looking the same as the others has always been the target. Admittedly there are plenty out there who see it as a uniform and will pick up the identikit pieces be it the standard Stone Island knit and obligatory check cap and that is their prerogative. For them it is usually a passing phase and they will move on. Generally anything I purchase I will want to make sure none of my mates have the same if I can help it. Call me a vein ******* but it is a good feeling walking into a pub and having someone say 'that's nice where you pick that up?'

And nothing worse than walking into the boozer and someone is wearing the same thing you are..

A trip abroad a few years back I got to Gatwick and was wearing the same trainers as one of the other lads.. He went into JD and bought a new pair.

Another trainer that was popular at Fawcett was the Adidas Addicolor where you coloured the stripes with addi pens.

The favourite colours of the time were the Rasta sweatband colours

Yep. Was still at school and paying for games with a paper round. That season was a massive eye opener. Aldershot was totally like you say, it kicked off everywhere at Gillingham as well and the train got "met" by Plod at Victoria and Brentford was the game that was in the Argus because Brighton put in two of the four pubs. I got there about half one to police horses and us being penned between the street and turnstile. The turnstile man got renamed "Ploppy the Jailer". Very nearly got trampled by police horses on the way back to the station. Chester on the Costa Coach was like a nunnery in comparison :lolol:

That day was mental, on another occasion possibly the next season I was on that infamous train that broke down at Manningtree on the way to Ipswich. We never did make the game the train got trashed fire extinguishers going off all over the shop, the transport police ended up marching us down the track back to a station if memory serves me right.

I didn’t know you went there too :) I also didn’t go skiing, wasn’t bothered as I don’t really like snow.
We did go to Wembley to watch England, imagine 100 Fawcett at Wembley :

All 5 league and cup games i've attended from 84 to 2000 kicked off one way or the other.

Must be the Fawcett way.. Would have loved to have built car engines/go sailing with the C2 kids..!
The academic side was pretty awful.. I remember reading the Argus front page on in summer, and seeing Mr Davis red Datsun at bottom of Beachy Head..
Upon return in September, Tompkison pulled us all in and essentially said 'he was teaching you the wrong syllabus for two years (and nobody noticed..) so you wont be doing O-level English, you'll all do CSE and God help you.. Dismiss..!'

Worked for my Bro the other year at Ashdown's house in Peacehaven.. He said 'it was a very well behaved school really.. ' I said 'only coz we lived in fear of the cane..' :lolol:

Well behaved school :mad :)
When I first joined NSC there was a thread about the hardest school in Brighton, Fawcett got plenty of mentions.
The whole school was banned from the buses for a while when I was there, we also were on the tv local news for a planned fight with Stringer. I say planned, they turned up late just after lunch and we had gone back to lessons. :)

Ah yes a trademark header by Bremner In front of a rammed Northstand proper football.

It was mental. . . .I was probably wearing levis and a Fred Perry, definitely not Farahs, and too young for Clubbing, but not the pub!
