a galaxy far far away
Zeqiri might not be as good as Maupay or Connolly, we just need to get out of this rut.

Try something different up front

Missed another sitter. The midfield create the chances, we need someone to score goals. Has to be dropped. Should have been dropped months ago.

No one is scoring. The forwards are creating chances for the midfielders, the midfielders dont score. Midfielders are creating chances for the forwards, forwards dont score.

Doesn’t say an awful lot with our sorry set of forwards I’m afraid.

Correct.

People want to loan out Connolly. Sell Maupay. Brilliant Goal Scoring Machine Welbeck is holy because he got caps for England.

Unfortunately the absolutely most probable reason people arent "Tau out" and "Zeqiri out" is because they havent played much but considering Tau didnt really score a lot in Belgium and Zeqiri played in the fecking Swiss div 2, they are unlikely to be the salvation and if they showed any tendencies of that in trainings, there's no reason Potter would keep them out.

Maupay will most likely remain the go-to choice, for the simple reason that he contributes a lot both in defense and attack. Hopefully he will also be able to bag another couple of goals before the season is over.

Bit like CMS team not playing to his strengths which is ball over the top and swift counter attacking

He is playing off form at moment and not playing well but to say he does not care is wrong .

I agree that we don’t have a great choice, to say the least, but clearly it’s not working with Maupay starting so why not try something else be that Tau or Zeqiri. They honestly couldn’t do any worse.

And Connolly does desperately need a loan, it’s painful watching him.

I feel to keep going with what we have recently would be a mistake on Potter’s half. There is something not right in these players heads at the moment and a cuamge would do them all good.

Well I don’t rate Welbeck as a finisher either truth be told. I think Potter has been utterly shafted by the recruitment department with what he has to work with up front. I do rate Connolly, and I think he’ll improve. But with our clubs safety (and maybe even GPs job) on the line what we have up front is a sorry state of affairs.

Maupay - works hard, will create some chances, but is nowhere near clinical enough in open play.

Welbeck - won’t stay fit very much, perennially lacking match sharpness, has never been prolific in his career

Zequiri - Swiss 2nd division. One for the future.

I would like Tau to play more. I’m surprised he hasn’t. Looked an interesting player at City. Hasn’t featured since Leicester if I recall. Can’t do much worse can he?

That really is desperate and clutching at straws.
Sadly, he has lost all confidence and with it has gone any decision making. He likes being back in defence because it takes all the pressure off him. He likes coming deep, taking the ball and laying it off because its easier and involves less responsibility. Inside the box, he passes when he should shoot and shoots when he should pass. He is quick to blame everyone around him for his own shortcomings. I don't totally blame him. He has been allowed to wallow in these sub-standard performances for months and his inadequacy in front of goal has spread throughout the team. He isn't value for money but then, neither are any of the other strikers we have.
You can't even say that he is best of a bad bunch. They are all as bad as each other but Maupay is supposed to be the main man and with that, he carries our hopes. It doesn't look like he is working hard enough on the training ground and it doesn't look like he is getting the right guidance either.

Seriously?

I thought strikers were supposed to score now and again?

Football teams are supposed to score now and again, who scores the goal is not important. Firmino scored 9 goals for Liverpool last season. Your own legend Bobby Zamora scored 2 goals in 32 starts for Fulham when they ended up 7th in the PL. Both contributed a lot to the success of their teams as they were very involved in creating chances for their teammates. Just like Maupay is. Maupay/Welbeck/Connolly/Zeq/Tau are no more responsible for making the team score than the midfielders are.

The midfield win the midfield battle every week. That is their primary job. Maupay has played all season and his primary job is to score goals. He fails to score goals. He misses chances. The manager should have had him fighting for his place from the bench in October. He has instead made him first on the team sheet every week. Abysmal man management.

The midfield have a job of helping the team score and prevent other teams from scoring, to help the team win football matches.

The midfield have theior hands full by trying to stop the other side scoring whilst also carving out chances. The forward job is to carve out chances and score. Maupay fails to do both. Few assists and few goals in open play, now he doesnt even take the penalties. To pick the same centre forward every week despite our conversion rate is bad management.

2 goals from open play, another 1 from a penalty and 0 assists in his last 20 Premier League games. That’s not a good look for him.

When you add in how much we have had the ball and the chances we’ve created in those games, it’s damning.

I don’t know how he can be defended. Someone else deserves the starts he gets every week (not Connolly!).

That is why the manager is at fault because he picks Maupay every week. I was a Potter fan but he was slow changing the keeper and now beyond slow in changing the striker.

Defense starts with the strikers, attacking starts with the keeper and defenders. The job of the eleven players on the pitch is to score more goals than they concede. Why are City top of the table? Because their strikers are scoring? No, they rarely are. Why are United also in the top, because their strikers are scoring? No, they rarely are. They are up there because they are scoring as a team. Just like Brighton (strikers, midfielders, defenders) have chances to score as a team, something I consider Neal very involved in. His playing style is allowing someone to be the equivalent of a winger like Rashford or Sterling or Harvey Barnes or an attacking midfielder like Gundogan or Fernandes or Maddison, but no one is taking up on his offer.

Maupay has scored more than the ‘top scorers’ at the following clubs above us:

Burnley
Wolves

He also only has 1 goal less than the top scorers from:

Southampton
Arsenal

And 2 goals less than:

Palace

Like I keep saying, it’s the rest of the teams responsibilities to score goals to
