I'm somewhere between ambivalent and uninterested when it comes to the royals. However, royal correspondents and royal 'watchers' are parasitic scum that make my piss boil.

Edward VIII succeeded his father, George V, as King-Emperor of the British Empire on 20 January 1936

Yes, Harry is s Royal Prince by birth - but he is sixth in line - it's simply not the same.

He was never crowned King so therefore wasn't king.

It doesn't matter what the succession line is, Harry is royal by birth.

What a daft comment. Did William feel any different? I have no idea why you’d even mention it.

As I said before, this will end in tears imo and he’ll be back. We’ll see

I mentioned it because he did, in an interview about mental health.

So this is why he has quit his job and absolutely nothing to do with his wife’s influence? If this was the reason(and I can’t see anyway that it could be) why didn’t he quit years ago?

Call me a cynic but I think his wife is calling the shots here, not him

The timing, with Prince Phillip in hospital, is pretty shit too. I wonder if the Palace released this info to avoid him and Megan doing it

Prince Philip.
99 years old and in hospital. I do wish him the very best and a healthy recovery.
But what if the worst were to happen to him in the next few weeks?
A funeral takes a few weeks to organise but who would be at it?
Would be in Westminster Abbey but limited to 30 as with everyone else? I'd imagine HRH demand it be the same as us commoners. Sussex's would have to attend but they would need to self isolate first. USA not on red list.

You're wrong - he didn't need to be crowned to become King.

Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from 20 January 1936 until his abdication in December of the same year. ... Edward became king on his father's death.

Like most things in life, decisions are made because of an accumulation of things. The Royals rarely sue the press, but when a hand written private letter is published, and the Mail sued successfully, it tends to tip the balance. He also sued the Mail for saying he let down the Marines, which was also successful with the proceeds going to Invictus Games.

He probably coped previously with the support of his family but when he has a young family of his own to protect, it tends to focus the mind. Did he want his wife hounded like his mother was?

Fair enough but he hasn’t helped himself much down the years. His military service and the Invictus games looked like it had turned the tide. I suggest, until Meghan came into his life, he was the most popular Royal by a margin.

A good question because in normal times, it would be a State funeral. There would be even more pressure than the Daily Mail can enforce. to end the lockdown.

It just goes to show that wealth and popularity can't buy happiness. I wish him all the best.

Timing is everything, we will probably start coming out of lockdown in a few days

I may be labouring the point here, but Meghan was the one who started the public whinging. As I said we’ll see how this pans out but imo she is wearing the trousers big time in that relationship. If that suits him, then fine.

There is a very obvious parallel to the Duke of Windsor

Did that coincide with more intense press intrusions? I would say blame the press, rather than his wife. Some sections of the press have been vile

It's pretty obvious that she was treated appallingly bad by the British media almost from the start. Could you imagine the Daily Mail/Sunday Mail leaking a personal letter from Prince William's wife ?

The press has an attitude to the royals that matches that of the public; one of contempt. I think most of us are quite happy to see the media make the royal family work for all that privilege and if that involves them being prodded then so be it. They love being celebrities but can’t take the press that goes with it. Tough.

She got plenty of shit for being a social climber with an air hostess mother didn’t she? Meghan is sailing that ship without a doubt and enjoying it too imo

That’s not what happened though. The letter was publicized by her father. The Mail didn’t steal it. James O’Brien has the same agenda he always has

Yep. If you don’t like the press and fear being hounded then remove yourself quietly and take yourself somewhere remote.

Or

Start winging at self arranged press conferences, chose certain media outlets you wish to work with, set up a PR machine named after your child, send out multiple press releases, invade other people zoom calls, continue to preach nonsense and move to HOLLYWOOD of all places.
