Didn’t get more exciting than Tony Meola’s two-match contract, for me

Loads of signings have been exciting and then been shit. Average is a bit rarer. CMS is possibly the ultimate.

Savage and Lingard spring to mind. Savage didn't under-perform while always looking a bit off the pace and appearing, ultimately, to be more of a signing on account of Uncle Dick being swayed by celebrity. Lingard scored a few but looked like the Championship was absolutely his level, which was a bit of a surprise given where he came from.

Albert Jarrett. Remember him absolutely destroying some team in pre season, unbelievable skills and dribbling. The same kind of performance that persuaded premier league Watford to give him a contract after he left us.

Don't think I've ever seen a player look so amazing one game, never to be repeated. Then the same at Watford, before drifting into non league

David Livermore thought he would give us experience etc and Micky would take us up. Livermore made Hawkins look like Pele that season. Think he would rival Les Briley as the shitest slowest player ever to grace the Albion after being half decent at another club.

Mickey Thomas for me.
I was excited when we signed him, but it was money well wasted.

He's the only signing we've ever made since I started supporting that before the ink was dry on the contract I was praying he would leave. Never liked him when he had played against us for Wrexham and United. Obnoxious player. There have been crap signings before and since but I'd always give them a chance, but not him. He could have 30 goals for us but I'd still have wanted him to go.

I'm not goint to start another similar but slightly different thread because (i) it isn't about obscure music and (ii) I'm not Mustafa, but I feel inclined to reference a related phenomenon: the unanticipated bullet dodged.

Name a player were we absolutely gagging to sign, who broke our tiny hearts by opting to join a 'bigger' club, and who subsequently showed us (within a few short weeks in this case) that we had dodged a massive bullet after he totally stank the place out at the bigger club, then vanished without a trace?

I give you: Lorenzo ('Italia') Pinamonte.

Thought he had some great moments but think his wife was ill so can't blame him for not being focused.

his wife volunteered at the charity that I worked for while Paddy was playing for Brighton. Left when he moved to Luton. She was a very lovely woman- when a lot of the staff found out that a footballers wife was going to help us I think some eyebrows were raised but she blew us out of the water. We would have tried to hire her permanently had she been with us for longer

Pretty sure her health was ok when he was with us? Her health problems came later which led to him moving back to Northern Ireland to be around family

Loads of names on here that I’d forgot all about. Jeez, there have been some big names that have been on our books over the years haven’t we?..

I think CMS has to be the one with the most hype ever seen on here (including from my good self). I genuinely thought he was going to fire us straight up to the prem and become as big a legend as Peter Ward is. We all know what happened there, and now any new signing we make doesn’t fill me with so much enthusiasm until they begin to perform on the pitch.

Gus out!
