The lockdown in the UK will only be as good as the enforcement. It's a similar situation here although it's been left to the individual autonomous regions to make their own arrangements. With the exception of Extremadura and some offshore islands, all of mainland Spain has lockdown. But the difference is that all roads crossing borders are manned by Polica National or Guardia - armed of course - and they take no prisoners, something the majority of Spanish nationals respect. Bars can remain open until 2230hrs but everyone (without good, provable reason) has to be off the streets by 2300hrs. Most of the autonomous regions are scared of the influx of Madrileans leaving Madrid and heading for their second homes so every train passenger arriving in Malaga today on the Madrid trains, or flights have had to prove their reason for doing so or face a large fine/custody. Now, will they they do similar in the UK to enforce the government action?

No - for whatever reason Boris is of a generation or a class (I'm not sure which; maybe both) for whom the word 'must' is the most unacceptable in the entire dictionary.

If schools are still to stay open, which overall I think is the right decision, I can’t understand why it’s not mandatory for us parents to wear a mask on drop off and pick up? It seems really strange not making it compulsary.

Actually, I’m suprised they haven’t made it mandatory to wear masks outside in public spaces now like they have in parts of Europe. It seems quite a minor but sensible thing to do.

It's a very good point. I often walk for miles and see nobody. I guess that would mean I could get away with it as long as I didn't get caught. Legal mandatory face coverings in public outdoors would be a nightmare

it is minor and they make very little difference. as long as you dont cough in anyones face, they'll all be fine at the school gate. they aren't any use for protecting you, unless you're using the medical grade ones.

I always wear a face covering on the school run. My son and myself got something resembling covid when schools returned after February half term

Yeah I think we will from now on. This is the place we spend more time with a lot of different people, more so than going shopping and the other places where masks are compulsary, so it seems to make sense.

I don't go out a great deal. Since I got the app it has just been school runs. Needless to say I've had several alerts bit none serious enough to warrant action. It confuses me that people who have tested positive would venture to such environments

I have no problem with what he is saying and appreciate the need for it.

But his performance is awful. Not the calm assured approach of Sturgeon in Scotland, Drakeford in Wales ir many other national leaders. He's not inspiring confidence in me at all......... but then he was never likely to.

His delivery is indeed poor when he has to talk for extended periods. There’s a strange cadence, pauses and his vocabulary seems a bit stunted at times. This latter point is odd given his education and career as a writer/journalist.

The terms of UK lockdown seem quite relaxed compared to other places. Education continues so parents will be dropping kids off at school, long walks in the countryside it seems, no mandatory mask rules and borders still wide open for international travellers. I really cannot see the infection rate dropping very quickly.

Not sure if it’s still the case as I’m avoiding news for a few months to hide from the election drama that isn’t healthy - but not too long ago if you took out the deaths in the US that were caused by 3-4 governors forcing nursing homes to take untested people into their care then the numbers in the US look much much different. That data point gets less and less overtime, obviously. But particularly Cuomo, I think there’s a fair argument he should be looked at for prosecution for what he did. Though his presentations and demeanor were very impressive despite that little fact. So much so there were rumors the DNC were considering replacing Biden with him.

Masks are worn to protect others from you.

Why do you think vets wear them when operating on animals? Doctors wore them long before this pandemic started, as did nurses. They are worn to prevent their droplets falling on you.
