“Sometimes it was difficult for him to carry out those intentions, for a number of different reasons, but he should be acknowledged for the good things he did for the club.”


I never disliked Stanley because I knew of his investment and thought that he wanted to do the right thing- although he got it wrong. I know that's not a popular view. The other two, however, are a different matter.

The thoughts of those who hated what the other two did, but knew Stanley, do nothing to change my view.

I won't gloat over someone's death. Ray Bloom knew him better than any of us. I never trusted Caplin though. Stanley will have family, so my sympathies lie with them. It would be lovely if Stanley's passing resulted in a few fans getting tested for prostate or bowel cancer. Hopefully they would all be negative, but a live saved would be great result from this thread. Just remember that beetroot comes out the same colour it went in, so don't immediately panic if you had a lovely beetroot salad for dinner the night before your morning movement turns the the toilet red!

He profiteered with Archer on selling a ground that was part of the fabric of a community. Archer and Stanley did not need even more personal wealth.

Being generous in the 80’s, can never make up for the evil deeds of the two partners in crime in the 90’s.

Stanley was possibly well-meaning, but not strong-willed enough to stop Archer's excesses once he had brought him in. I met him only once, and that was on a plane on his way to a Chelsea game in Europe. I think we came third in his affections behind Chelsea and East Preston FC.

I worked with a sad sycophant, a guy in his 40’s who worshipped Stanley and his protective muscle Harwood (Albion groundsman and fellow East Preston devotee).

He said that Stanley was in awe of the cerebral Archer. When he had a ‘clever’ scheme, Stanley loved it and fell in line.

My colleague was gutted in the 90’s when his East Preston idol Stanley turned out not to be an Albion hero after all. He confirmed that Chelsea was his club.

I don't class Stanley in with the other two.

In my view Stanley was elevated way past his own competence. He was someone who said what he thought everyone wanted to hear. He had nowhere near the skillset to run a football club.

It's rest in peace from me.

He was one of three scumbags who nearly destroyed the club. Just because he’s died doesn’t change this fact.

I am having a biopsy on Monday. I asked for a urine test because prostate cancer scares the willies out of me, and because, at 62, my flow is neither calm and steady, nor accompanied by loud commands (although sometimes my strength is running low). Turns out the test result is on the cusp. I had a young female GP stick a finger up my arse a week earlier, but that's another story (the story being she seemed to be going by the book, yes the one she hadn't read properly).

Don't wait till you're getting up three times a night for a jimmy. Tell your GP to sort you out (you may get swifter service if you pronounce your request in the manner of Ray Winston).

Best wishes for a successful outcome. The procedure isn't too bad. My PSA test was on the cusp, but biopsy clear, so then one can focus on managing the symptoms of an enlarged and occasionally infected prostate. For me that means occasional ibuprofen and maybe antibiotics. Hope it goes well.

I find the fact that the club have posted an article saying they "regret" Stanley passing incredible.

Being a friend of the Bloom family does not change the fact that Stanley brought Archer into the club. He did nothing to stop the sale of the Goldstone. He lied through his teeth at at those Concorde meetings saying he wanted to save the Albion when in fact he was simply protecting Archer to take his cut.

So what if he put some cash in the 1980s? You could use the same argument about Archer's initial investment before the asset stripping started.

Three men tried to kill the Albion. It's two down, one to go as far as I'm concerned.
