Messi. Obviously I don't think he's 'rubbish' but wonder if he is overrated. Went to watch Barca at the Nou Camp last year and he scored a hat trick. Every one identical, a left foot curler from the edge of the box into the far top corner. Metronomic. So my controversial opinion is that he is a bit of a one trick pony. He is phenomenally one footed for a player of his reputation. I wonder what he'd look like in the premier league, where he'd be pressed more and forced on to his right foot more often. He has never done much in the world cup and I'm trying to think of his performances against English sides in the champions league, he was certainly part of Barcas capitulation at Anfield last year.

I could make a whole team: Allison, Maguire, Stones, Keane, Walker, Robertson, Pogba, Grealish, Wijnaldum, Zaha, Kane, Salah

I'm not trying to say that I'm right , much of
the footballing world would disagree. Probably More a case I don't like his persona and therefore don't want him to be good!

Another thing about Ibra, I always got the impression he was playing well within himself. Meaning, if he'd had a more professional attitude, he could of been even better!

Now that's a bit scary.

I'd also add, that although he's arrogant, he always backs it up. Prime example, when signing fo LA , he took out a full page advert in the local rag with just the words - 'Your welcome'. Then scored a worldy on his debut.

Classic.

Great footballer granted, but shockingly poor writer if he doesn't even know the difference between your and you're.

I am not sure Ozil is "over-rated" per se, as when he "wants" to play he can be very good.
But his attitude/lazyiness means little point having him on the pitch.I think he's a player who's not actually that interested in football but earns a shedload so why change anything (Gareth Bale too) - both could easily move and be playing high level football week in week out but don't want a pay "cut"....

I would nominate Deli Alli, Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford.

Ok. I'm gonna be controversial now and say Messi.

Great player, but I would of liked to see him play in another country as well as Spain. That's why I rate Ronaldo as a better player.

Apologies if this offends anybody!!

Not offensive, just stupid.

He did play a few games against foreign opposition in the Champions League. Played 30+ times against the English top 4 and gets on average a goal or assist every 90th minute.

22 goals and 6 assists in 30 games against the top 6 in PL.

He would do fine.

"Never done much in the world cup" :lolol:

Do you mean apart from single handedly dragging his country to the final and then winning the golden ball for being player of the tournament?!

Messi is under-rated if anything.

I’m amazed anyone who’s seen Messi play in real life could ever even conceive of calling him over rated, he’s just obscenely good I left the game thinking I’m never going to see a player that good ever again, the touch and close control was something I’ve never seen anything like, before or since.

I am starting to have doubts that Grealish is as good as I thought he was. Rubbish is a bit strong though.

Ozil.

But no-one can compete with the most over-rated player ever: Mr D Beckham.

think Ozil beats him easily, though Beckham was overrated. Pogba for Man U is another (seems great for France). does anyone rate de Gea any more?
