politicians are actually human beings who by and large are doing what they are doing for what they feel is for good..

:lolol::lolol::lolol::lolol:

And I’m not convinced they are all human beings.

With the, uh.. inspiring name 'Change UK'.

So you could say they're just a bunch of CUKs. Which will be the new insult..

seems a daft name as its sounds one issue/short term, not about to become a credible general party of the center many hope for.

Completely agree. Lib dems are pretty much finished, their party finances are not looking good and there's no real figure among them to stand out and make the case for a centrist position. Unfortunately, Change UK is about as inspiring as magnolia and doesn't really tell us much more than they want change.

Anyone who follows politics knows their core ideas. Pro-EU and voting reform, but that's it. Early days maybe, but it's hard to imagine them coming out as being strong contenders for the centre ground. Especially with the idea of another General Election being touted as a solution (solution, my ass) to this impasse over Brexit. Change do not have the time to begin a full campaign. So there's a change their seats would go back to the party which they were ticketed on as a default.

Awful situation to be in.

I think it’s what’s called a sensible answer. It might be being “owned” if I were five years old. Us adults don’t think in those terms.

We. We adults...

Chuka's CUKs

He is very well groomed. But his bottling out of the labour leadership race a couple of years ago was telling. The rumour was he didn't fancy being mocked for his metrosexual lifestyle. That doesn't bode well - you have to be able to stand up for what you stand for. Anyway, he looks strong and stable to me.

The UK needs a new MODEL figurehead, why not the sex on legs that is Chuka. The UK needs a central figure and neither May or Corbyn would look good on Page 3.

Agree with the thread title.

I see Rees-Mogg was tweeting AfD videos the other day. The Tories and their staunch voters are sleepwalking to the far right.

Sorry yes, doctors, nurses, you know...NHS staff. Teachers too.

I guess I’ll wait for some sensible people to find this thread. Usual crowd of numpties on here so far.

And the winner of today's " happy chappy" award goes to.........................

PS. I am neither usual or a numpty :annoyed: But well done for the correct plural :clap2:

and, apparently while the spokesperson for TIG, he's not their leader (Heidi Allen).

Disagree with the sleepwalking. BlUKIP well under way, there's been a sudden surge of UKIPPERs heading back and taking a few their nasty mates with them. There's a civil war in the Tory party that's worse than the Labour in fighting. Conservatives are knowingly heading that way, Dominic Grieve's vote of no confidence is the sign of the times for the Tories.

The sudden lurch to the far right makes sense, Labour's now far-left. Naturally, that means the right swing rightward even further and the centre ground becomes very empty. History shows this.

Sajid Javid wants to hold teachers and NHS workers accountable for failing to spot the warning signs of violent crime in society? Here you go Sajid, these are the warnings signs that help produce a society where violent crime increases. Years of crippling austerity, stripping people of benefits, scrapping housing benefits, raising higher education fees to astronomical levels, cutting services to local government services, cuts to social care, cuts to schools. We’ve spotted the warning signs for you, now maybe you should take some responsibility for the policies your party has put in place rather than shift the blame to hard working individuals who have to deal your consequences.

Now they want nurses and doctors to be held accountable for spotting youth crime.
The surge in youth crime is nothing to do with police cuts or the cultivation of poverty by May and her cult of Eton toffs then?

I doubt the proposed changes are that different to what’s in place now but the attempt by the Tory shits to shift responsibility is shocking.

Please, grow up. Whilst it makes a great Mirror headline, the reality is that they are just ensuring that educational professionals do what they should be doing already.

You lose your argument by starting with scum in the title.

Is that a quote from Heidi or are you saying that Heidi is the leader? They need to be clear about this (as in 'let me be clear') if they are to form a party that is ready for he general election in two weeks' time.

Yeah, maybe I was being too nice about it. The centrists need to be much more vocal about the issues around Islamophobia and their colleagues' support of far right parties.

its what the BBC report TIG/Change UK are saying, Allen is interim leader as they prepare for European elections... aside from the obvious problem, seems they may have identified how to continue in politics if their current member associations and constituents ask them to leave.

The professionals mentioned by the Tories here currently have an obligation to report incidents they believe are related to crime. Their obligation hasn’t changed but the Tories now want to introduce legal penalties to those they deem have failed in their duty.
It’s a blame shift and it’s evil.

Totally agree with that bit. Putting more pressure on people who are already under enormous pressure. But I think the Tory problem at the moment is that anybody with any sense that they have has already resigned somewhere along the line on a matter of principle, and those who are left particularly in the senior positions are the self-seeking self-serving publicists who are after being leader, and so are seeking to curry favour with the rank and file membership of the party by doing the daft things they will approve of in case they get to the final 2 in any leadership election.

Interim leader apparently

The Independent Group will stand candidates in the European elections having applied to register as an official political party under a new name - Change UK.

Heidi Allen, the MP for South Cambridgeshire, has been appointed to become Interim Leader of the new party for the purposes of Electoral Commission (EC) registration until the election of a permanent leader at an inaugural conference in September, when the main launch of the new party will take place.

Yeah, maybe I was being too nice about it. The centrists need to be much more vocal about the issues around Islamophobia and their colleagues' support of far right parties.

The problem is that this has become so venomous, those that are speaking out are being targeted. You have the few brave* enough to speak out, such as Grieves, but other considerably 'moderate' MPs are definitely too scared to come out and say something. The problem here for the 'moderates' is what course of action do they take, do they remain within to try and influence a push back against this or do they speak out and face the wrath of the Conservative Associations as is becoming more and more evident.

For those that are centre-right, you have the additional worry of breaking away and helping Corbyn to power and then losing your seat to potentially even more right-wing nutter at the next election.

The state of British politics right now is atrocious, the timing could not be any more worse.

I find Tories are by their very nature not people I particularly like, they tend to have a very narrow field of vision when viewing those less fortunate are concerned they are quick to temper and often jingoistic with a very black and white view of the world routed in the days of the empire
