Are we really expected to beat villa

I put it this way, we are better than most teams in this league our squad is top 3 in this division and over the season we will be in top 3 I believe. With Steve Bruce at villa now he will get them top 6 and they have more financial clout than most but they have been in turmoil and our form over last year has been exceptional apart from 1 or 2 hiccups. if we are on our game we should be too strong for them if we are not then they are capable of beating us. But I think it's a game we should win

There are no certainties, but the odds must be slightly in our favour that we beat Villa on Friday.

Target must be 16 points from the next 7 games to reach a statement 50 points by the halfway stage.

Looks like we are expected to win by two clear goals. 2-0

I think the Adomah/Gestede combination will get them a consolation. That's what is expected.

Playing them at the worst time, new Manager after a break.

PS: If Villa lose Id guess that kyboshes their outside bid for the automatics. Still could make the play-offs though.

Do we want promotion - yes
Do we want auto promotion - yes
Then we have to expect to beat most team especially at home, it is not arrogant it is the level of expectation we have set ourselves this season and we are flying.
Therefore the short answer is YES.

A mid table team are traveling to second in the league, promotion chasing, thrashed promotion favourites, have no injuries (no 'fillers' in team), in front of a full house, on TV Brighton & Hove Albion.
Villa will hope to keep the score down. We just have to be on our game and not complacent. If there was to be a Norwich backlash it would have been at Bristol.
Plus 6 goals between us and Leeds could see us TOP.

If we want autos then we must win our home games. Doesn't matter if it is against Rotherham or Villa. All must wins.

According to Paddypower, we're 5/6, Villa 10/3. They seem pretty confident that Villa won't win - almost worth an insurance bet at that price!

Apart from after an international break, where the non-international duty Albion players appear to just lie on the couch with a four-pack of Stella and watch Jeremy Kyle. If there's maybe one criticism to be levelled at CH, it's that he doesn't appear to be able to keep the players fully motivated over the course of a two week lay-off so that they can pick up where they left off. Hopefully the Villa game will prove me wrong. Best thing going in our favour this time around will be a fully fired-up AK who is now on a very personal mission.

I am expecting and hoping to win but depending on how the other teams do in their games I wouldnt be too disappointed with a draw. Especially be watching the results of Cardiff v Huddersfield, QPR (New manager) v Norwich, Leeds V Newcastle and Fulham v Wednesday. You would expect Derby to win at home to Rotherham.

Brighton factually.....
I expect Villa to beat us and then the media will go crazy and big up Bruce saying he has re awakened the sleeping giant that is Villa....

Or I could be wrong and

We win and the media will say they were hard done by it was never a penalty and its only a matter of time before Bruce re awakens the sleeping giant that is Villa....

You get the jist

Can I ask a question - have we ever finished a season in a higher league position than Aston Villa?

No. Others are Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Tottenham only once in the Southern League,

Beaten Villa in the south v north decider in 1910 though.

How can you possibly be in a position to make such a wild statement with any degree of authority?

Sadly, I expect you are right. It has changed in our favour over the years, as we have been there or thereabouts for so long, but in general I think it is fair to say that the media's coverage has been concerned far more with teams that have "names" in our league.

*sigh* here we go again, my own personal pompous ass stalker is back online...

Note the word 'appear'. It's my personal opinion, based on observation of the first game back after each of the last two international breaks. Did you go to those? We looked incredibly rusty in both.

Would be pretty damn dull if every post had to be qualified with 'IMHO'.

Not quite sure you 'get' NSC. Don't you think you'd be altogether happier back on the Argus comments section? UTA.

There is no way that I expect to beat Villa

However, if we play well I am certain that we will beat them.

Don't play at our best give 100% there is every likelihood that we will beat them.

Don't play well and don't give 100% then we will lose.

Taking all of that into account then it is in our own hands. It's up to us and with the attitude of the team recently, I am hopeful without being overly confident of a win
