And I'm sure your kids must have schooling needs and such a move could disrupt their education? I know what you mean about being told you have to accept or be knocked off the list, it's bullying.

As for Council housing, my European neighbours moved on in, had their house adapted for 'special needs' and are now looking to buy it 'on the cheap'.

Indeed my friend. The kids schools are all local to me presently and there is no way I would take them out of the schools they're all settled in. It's not fair on them. It's so frustrating. I'm looking out of my window at the empty property that would PERFECTLY suit all our needs right now!

Yesterday I was spoken down to in such a way that I just felt sick after the call. I like to think when I talk on the phone that I am polite and eloquent.

Always ask for name and position of person you`re speaking to. You can ask to speak to their Boss

Hindsight suggests you are completely correct but in the heat of the moment I totally forgot. I was working hard at not giving her what she really wanted, an abusive, sweary thug at the end of the line.

I hear that mate but as I said we were only bidding to keep the account activated and we were still Band C when the bid was placed, which as I said earlier gives you zero chance of being offered a place.

That's the trouble it doesn't, if the place is a shit hole then C and sometimes D gets it. You need to get to the top, waste of time speaking to the ones who answer the phone they only fob you off.

Good luck

All the way up to Chief Exec......you`d be suprised how simple it is to get the top man involved...Ring and ask to speak to him.Receptionist will ask you what it is about. Don`t tell ,Say it is something you need to speak to him about . Unlikely you`ll get to him direct,They`ll put you through to secretary. Explain your predicament and he will get back to you. Involvement of Chief Exec will make others jump.

I think it's disgustingt that you consider it "fortunate" to have a council home. Sadly with mass immigration the waiting list will only grow.

I thought that working migrants were now not eligible for working tax credits or council housing for four years.

Whilst I cannot stand Dawn Barnett's politics, I would make use of her. She's quite a formidable character.

It might help if we actually built enough houses as well. Lot's of talk from central Government in recent years. **** all action.

You're right that it's disgusting. However, you are only acknowledging part of the issue if you want to lay it at the door of immigration.

It's a lot harder for anyone , hardly any properties on the list plus more restrictions of availability especially those without a connection to the area. They want to shove anyone with needs up North where the properties are a lot cheaper

Hmmm. My mother has lived in the same council flat in Hangleton since it was built in 1961 and she, with others, have sought Dawn Barnett's support/assistance for a couple years over an ongoing issue with a neighbour relating to nuisance, dumping of rubbish, potential child neglect and drug dealing. I can't say I'm impressed, quite the opposite.

Try asking for help at election time, it's amazing what they can do then

I do have some sympathy for your plight but I guess that's not what you need right now. It does all seem a little procedural rather than common sense being applied. Given that you already have Dawn Bartlett onside, would there be any mileage in trying to engage your local MP to fight your corner?

Agreed.
Some time ago we had some issues with the police where our son had been attacked and nothing was being done even though there were witnesses who knew the perpetrators.
An email to our MP got a visit and update from the police within 72 hrs.

Shame it wasn't travelers causing the nuisance. She'd be straight down there.

Blaming immigrants for the waiting list when there's a shortage of housing is also pretty disgusting.

At the top of the conversation, ask for their name, their position, just to ensure you are speaking to the right person. Also suggest you ask for the name of their immediate superior. That question often leads to a defensive answer like 'I'm not sure they can help you any more than I can...'. But just point out that you're after their name. They won't have a reason not to give it. As has been suggested on here, the higher up the chain you go, the better result you should get.

If you can, record the phone conversation too.

Good luck.
